Is this a benotto?
Good day!
I need some help in figuring out what make this frame is. At the moment im thinking it's a Benotto, possibly a 5000. But i truly have no idea! All I know is that it's made from columbus tubing.

Hi Benottomadmax,
Nothing seems to have posted but I have a Benotto 5000. Most tubes have been ovalised and the gear cables are internally routed. The rear wheel forks are diamond shaped. It has 'BENOTTO' cast into the seat stay caps and the fork crown (on either side). Two 'B's are cast into the brake bridge as well. The seat tube has been crimped to allow the rear wheel to tuck in closer to the tube. The bottom bracket has a 'B' cutout with an arrow shape cutout next to the 'B' cutout.
Here is a couple of photo's to help you compare frames:

Hey Gary Fountain...
Very nice! I like the read cable routing on the chain stay...that is very cool!
Mine has no internal gear cable routing except for the rear brake. Since posting the thread I did a little more research. The tubing is known as Gilco. A 4-star shape tube was made exclusively for Colnago. A 5-star shaped version, like the one on my frame, was made available to all manufacturers who wanted it. Its made either from Colnago SL or SLX.
Is the design of the 'B' on the lugs a Benotto B? Or it could be a Basso…? I'll get some pictures of the bottom bracket later today and post them, but it has no B. In fact the bottom bracket looks very generic.

Hi Benottomadmax,
Mine doesn't have a 'B' cast into the lugs; they are plain. You can see the Benotto 'B' on the top of the fork crown in one of my photo's. I would also say that I haven't seen a good quality Benotto from the late 70's onwards that didn't have 'BENOTTO' cast into the seat stay lugs. I think you have a Basso. I don't think it would be a Bianchi as I can't recall Bianchi using Gilco shaped tubing.
On one hand you probably don't have a Benotto 5000, a really great bike, but you probably have a really desirable Basso.

Basso uh? interesting...i'll do some more research then.
Something I forgot to mention...the person who sold me the frame actually told me what make it was, but as you can see, i have forgoten. I do remember him saying that the company were based in northern Italy, and that's where Basso are based!
