Acorn Bags

Was anyone lucky enough to get an Acorn bag ordered today? I'd really like to hear someone's opinion on it and some pics of the new boxy rando bag:

https://www.acornbags.com/boxybag.html

I'm a little annoyed because I read yesterday on the acorn site that he was changing the way they take orders and instead of taking orders the first of every month only, they would keep the ordering system open. He would only stop taking orders if the backlog got longer than 12 weeks. Because of that I didnt get on the site first thing this morning, March 1st assuming I'd be able to place my order later in the day or even a few days later.

Well, apparently he filled his quota plus some because he's already turned off the ordering buttons and won't be taking orders again until MAY! Two months away! So I'm not sure how that works out better than taking orders once a month on the first of the month. Now I have no idea when in May I can order, and there is no ordering at all in April. Because of that I'm probably going to have to take my business somewhere else.

I wonder when VO is going to be finishing their rando style bag:

Damn. That is annoying. I know a good canvas shop. I'm going to make my own just out of spite.

I thought that is how they have done it for a while. It was never just a "only on the first day". It was that they took orders until their quota was filled, then it would be closed until the next month.

I was about to order one, but decided against it. I'll wait a couple of months before I order one. Just not a good time of year for me to be buying accessories that I don't really need right now.

A member posted their review of the Boxy in the Touring forum:

There is also a link to his blog with a comparison of the Rivendell bag.

I saw the Boxy post in touring, it looks like an incredibly nice bag.

kinda, but he said on Saturday he would be keeping the buttons there until it ran out 12 weeks. I took that to mean they would be there longer than a day, otherwise what was the point in the change? Also, if the ordering system was the same as what he'd been doing, he'd be taking order again April 1st. he's not taking orders now until sometime in May.

I was going to order one when they first were available but decided to wait. Looks like I am going to have to keep on waiting if I want to get one. There is also the Ostrich one from VO. Not quite as nice but available.....

I saw that and i'm considering it as well. I'd probably get it if it wasnt green. I know, lame excuse but I want a brown one..

Someone posted a link to a Japanese site that had some beautiful bags but it was hard to tell how much they were. I might be looking into that option as soon as I can find that link...

Here are the Japanese bags, Guu Watanabe:

https://wallbike.com/guu/retro/retro.html

Very expensive. $398.00 for the front rack bag and $201.00 for the saddlebag.

I am actually thinking of putting up my own business making cycling bags. I have a few connections for cheap labor and wil hopefully get rolling sometime this year.

Bummer that you missed out on the ordering window. I was lucky enough to order the 2 strap roll and the medium saddlebag back in November and they are very nice and very well made. I appreciate Acorn's commitment to keeping things under control, but I think they should have kept the ordering system the way it was. It wasn't the most convenient way, but it was fair and it ensured that you'd get your bag within the month (I got mine in about 3 weeks).

Hardly lame IMHO. For the price of all of these "vintage style" bags, you have to LOVE the look of it to justfy the cost.

In another thread I said that someday I'd love to own a Japanese Toei. Someday. When I do, if I do, these would be the only bags that would be worthy.

Hello holiday76,

I stayed up til the wee hours of the morning {3am}
ordering button never appeared so I got up
super early {7am} no button. Went to work came home
sold out till May. Bummer. I have attempted since Nov.
To get one of those 2 strap seat bags. I suppose I'll just
find a seamstress and have one made.

Mr Acorn if you read this feel free to contact me
you wont have to wait for any buttons to appear.

Cheers.

that's a shame. I've actually been able to get on the site twice in the past few months on the morning of the 1st, but the rando bag wasnt for sale yet either time. I actually thought about getting one of the other bags even though I didnt need one just because they're so hard to get! Ha.

That's strange. I didn't see the button late at night, but when I woke up around 10:00 am EDT, there was a button to buy. I guess he puts the button up when he wakes up. You were a little too early.
