World Tourist...worth it? (not really a value inquiry)
So on CL, there's a 5 speed World Tourist that is about my size for $30. I'm really tempted to pick it up, but the last thing I need is another upright, heavy as heck bike that I won't be able to use much. I could use it as a shopper...Anyway, should I pick it up?

I think it would function well as a utility bike or foul weather bike. I just fixed up a 10 speed world tourist and sold it for $65. It came to me totally rusted out and it took some work to get it nice and shiny. It wasn't my size so I road it a few blocks to check the brakes and shifters and that was about it. If I found one in my size I could find a use for it.
I assume you're aware of the positron front freewheel, and the difficulty in servicing the drivetrain?

yeah, I'm aware. I had an old Peugeot road bike that had a six speed positron system that I (stupidly) donated to a thrift store. ugh. I kinda like it.

You gonna eat that?
There's one just like that in brown at a Salvation Army store nearby.... they're asking $50 and I would have bought it by now if it were just a bit bigger. If you have one in your size for $30, go for it and have fun. If you decide you don't want it, you should be able to flip it for a profit.
