Sorry guys-----is this PX-10 worth $150?
I'm looking for a new/old bike for me and just saw this on CL and have an appt tomorrow to see it:
Peugeot PX 10, 25", 531 steel frame. 27" rims, newer saddle supplied, Stronglight cranks, cheesy derailleur. Bring cash and long legs. $150
Is it worth the $150 to make into a rider----not a flip?

I'm not sure if it's really a PX-10, because I'm not schooled in Peugeot's use of non-curly Nervex lugs through the P-series history, but if it is a PX-10 or even close, then YES it is a good buy at $150.
I have a smaller PX-10 with terrible paint and needing complete overhaul, paid around $250. There is a similar (to mine) complete one on Ebay right now, being bidded up above $600.

looks like the PX10LE came in a 64cm which would be the 25" the owner states. Anyone know the top tube size for these bikes?
Thanks for the help

I've owned a couple of UO-10s so I'm not an expert but 5 arms on the crank and chrome lugs tell me that it's a model better than that. Unless there's something totally screwed up on it that the picture doesn't show, snap it up.

The frame is a PX-10 but the saddle looks shot and the pedals, bars, brake levers, wheels and maybe stem appear to be replacements. Still a good deal for $150 unless there is hidden damage.

Circa 1973-74 PX-10, if I am reading the decals correctly. Tres cool!

Also looks like there is a pump peg on the top tube not the seat tube like on some PX10s. I'm buying it tomorrow and will post pics when i get her home.
looks a lot like this '72 on the retropeugeot website.

I wanted to say it's probably a 72 due the Prugnat lugs but I've learned that nothing is set in stone for this vintage Peugeot. Definately early 70's though. Looks like a nice find.

Eary 70's but definitly pre-74.
To the OP...when you get it home check the components for date codes as that will be the best way of narrowing down a date.

Went and bought it this morning. My plan was if the chrome is good, I'll take it despite the parts, cause the $150 would be a good price for the frame/fork.
Well, the chrome looks good, a few small spots on the fork's chrome. The seller said the rear derailleur was "cheesy" and he said it again when I was there. However, its the original Simplex RD.
The RD, FD, headset, cranks, BB (I assume), seatpost, shifters are original.
The guy said he owned since the early 90's and swapped the original Mafac brakes for these Universal sidepulls. He switched the wheels out too. And obviously the handlebars. Luckily, he left the downtube shifters and the cable hanger for the centerpull brakes even though theyre not in use.
Also, the RD has 3 over 72, so I'd assume March 1972. From what I've been reading it looks like these simpler lugs in black were only offered for the 1972 model? However, the C-C seattube is 63cm. The French catalog online doesnt show that a 64 is available in 1972. But, maybe in the US it was offered?
Also, that is the "death stem" right? What stem should I replace it with and what bars?
Anyway, enough chattering, here are the photos.

Very nice bike!
I've got one just like it same size with the same lugs. I believe mine is a '72 also.
I always chuckle when I see that Inoxyable decal on a rusty Peugeot.
Congratulations.

Looks like it will make a nice rider. Congrats! As for what bar and stem....that's up to you. Are you planning to restore it to original condition or do you want more modern components. The tricky bits will be the BB, headset and stem. You can take just about any quill stem and sand it down from the usual 22.2 mm OD to 22.0 mm OD to fit the French fork. I'd inspect, clean and grease the BB soon since that is one thing that is hard to fudge if it needs replacement, take good care of it. You'll probably have to find an good LBS to get the cranks off. They require a special Stronglight specific 23.35 mm crank puller to remove.

Agreed! Just rode my Simplex Criterium equipped Gitane yesterday and that very thought went through my mind.

What type seatpost came on your bike? Simplex, Campy or something else?
