What Panasonic didn't I buy?
In 1979, I bought a Motobecane Super Mirage from a local bike shop for $215. The same shop also carried Panasonic bikes at the time, and I also considered a Panasonic that cost a tad less--$210, I think. I ultimately went for the Moto--mostly, I admit, because of the cool black and red paint job and the French coolness factor. I have to say it's been a good bike--frame fits well, I still ride it a lot as my winter/bad weather bike, though the only original part left on it is the headset. But sometimes I wonder if I should have bought the Panasonic after all. What model would it have been in that price range? What did I miss out on? All I can remember is that it came in some monstrous frame sizes--26 and 27 inch (I ride a 25). I think the Japanese were overestimating the size of the gaijin at that time.
