Bianchi Super Corsa vs Campione Del Mondo

Does any one know the difference between these two bikes? I'm looking at two 1981 frames for sale. Cosmetics wise the Super Corsa has chrome lugs and different embossments on the seat stays.

I know the tube sets are the same. So was it a matter of component groups? Or perhaps the Campione lacked all the chrome to be lighter for actual racers?

Chrome is nanometers thin. I doubt there's any appreciable weight difference.

The Campione del Monde is a lesser model than the Super Corsa. I think the Super Corsa would have been made in the Reparto Corse or race dept. and was the ultimate Bianchi while the Campione del Mondo was probably a production line bike. The earlier Campione del Mondo's were made with Columbus Tre Tube - the three main tubes were of good quality and the other tubes were of a lesser quality. I think the Belgan national team used Campione del Mondo frames as their race bikes in the early 80's though. They must be pretty good frames all the same.

There is a web site with lots of old catalogue scans - Bulgier.net - have a look.

I have a nice Campione del Mondo and would swap it for a Super Corsa frame without a second thought.

Best of luck,

Gary.

Another difference may be the use of Campy dropouts on the SC and Bianchi dropouts on the CdM.

I had already been to the Bulgier catalogs. They didn't shed any light on the differences. The above page is the only one that references the CdM.

The Bulgier "81c" catalog has this:

Also of interest is this Italian eBay listing...apparently the CdM does have Campy dropouts, though the year is not specified:
