Need Help Quill Stem Size Schwinn Super LeTour

I have a 1990 Super LE Tour and I want to change the quill stem to one with a more upright angle. The size on the stem says 0.833 and it measures 21mm. I thought stems from that era were 1 inch or 1 1/8 inch so I'm a bit confused. What size should I be looking for? Thanks

They were either .833 or .875 depending how thick the steer tube wall thickness was. The forks from that era were all 1 inch. Schwinn used the stronger thicker wall in the steer tube because of their lifetime warranty on frames. You need a .833 quill. Roger

Thanks, it looks like the only people making quills that size is Walds and those look pretty cheap-o. I guess i'm stuck with using the one I have. Thanks

Chris

I believe Nitto makes them but they are kind of expensive. There are also dozens of them on E-Bay weekly and any older bike shop probably has a few in the back room. Roger
