Colnago Super Pruduction dates and identification process. Help!

Hi I have a Colnago Super with Mavic G40 clinchers at 27" I would like to get a date of production but where can I go to get that info? When were they produced? I think it could be early 80's but am not sure. I bought it recently from an American guy in London. It has a Mavic SSC gruppo and pedals. Plain red with large flaking decals. It would benefit from arespray and new decals. Would it be better to keep the 27" wheels or replace them or sell the whole bike and look for another? The 27" wheels confused me when I dicovered their size. Any help very much appreciated. I don't know if this makes a difference but the frame has no chrome parts and is not stamped with the club logo. It has 39 stamped underneath. Thanks. England.

The Mavic SSC gruppo (highly underated) dates from mid eighties I believe.
does the crank look like a campy NR copy or is it the starfish one
(large spider, looks very sculpted and heavy).
Do the pedals look like the old quill type (clips and straps) or like a
look copy? that will help ID at least the components which should
give an idea of the bikes vintage.
you could try sending serial number to Colnago and see if they can
ID it for you.

Can you provide more details as to the frame itself? Pics would be helpful.

If it were me, I'd replace the G40s with something like GP4s or GL330s which
will run 700c. IIRC colnago wasn't big on Chroming, maybe the fork but that
would be about it.
