This is a Clubman/ Path Racer I put together using s Schwinn 1941 World lightweight frame and bits a pieces I had laying around. Schwinn did make this model for one year in 1953 using basically the same chrome moly frame. Very nice riding comfortable bike. Roger

And here I thought that a "path racer" was a bike set up to ride on trails and MUTs!

It's a "Road-Path" frame according to the Claud Butler literature.

1962 Hercules clubman. There is no model name on it. It is Birmingham badged and AMF imported. The build of this bike reads like the Hercules Kestrels; Williams crank, Cyclo Benelux derailleurs, GB bars, GB stem, GB brakes, British Hub racelite hubs, Gripfast wingnuts, Dunlop rims, Wrights W5N saddle. The lugs are fancier than standard Hercules issue and the closest I've been able to find are Carlton lugs. Pretty soon it will be getting a preservation and made ready for road duty. I've had no luck finding replacement white Bluemels fenders and so it will be sporting VO smoothies.

Here are a few

I was able to date this bike from the crank as a late 1962. From my understanding, this bike represents the end of the end of the all British clubman. Around this time, TI and Raleigh began the move to the more international type bikes and began equipping them with non-British components - i.e. the Gran Sport.

This thread probably should have been two separate threads: (1) Show your path racer (2) Show your clubman. They really are two distinct genres. There is already enough confusion between them without muddying up the waters even more.

Yes. But.

I understand what a path racer is.

The 'Clubman' thing, though. I thought I got that. But clearly I didn't.

My understanding of the clubman is a bicycle that was like a swiss army knife. Primarily a commuter, secondarily capable of timed runs, touring, organized club rides, etc.. They were essentially the working stiffs commute and play bikes as multiple bike ownership was often not possible due to expense. Typically higher end bikes, though not always high end.

Come on rhm, you can follow the drift, Clubman + Pathracer = mostly 3 speed with flipped NR Bars...which come from England.....so anything from England with out a derailleur..............Doohhhh!...epic fail....default to Made in England. Clear as Mud.

Okay, so let me get this straight... a bike suitable for leisure, competitive, or utilitarian riding, with a frame made of high or low quality steel, either in England or elsewhere, with or without a derailleur, with or without fenders, with a drop bar or other handlebar?

I have spent a lot of time wearing period correct clothing, reading Sheldon Brown and watching Downtown Abbey. This makes me the most qualified person to answer your question definitively.

The answer is 42.

I can prove this with a likeness of me riding my velocipede.

Cool! Is it a Hercules? 'Cuz Hercules, may he rest in peace, was the original club man.
