Portland, Maine

I'm about to spend a couple days in Portland. Is there an LBS that a C&V guy would want to check out?

I suppose any chowder recommendations would be welcome too!

Not in Portland, but about 35 miles north east is Bikeman in Woolwich, ME. I've never been to the store, but they certainly sell lots of C & V stuff online.

Lots of good eating in Portland. For great fish and chips, try Susan's. And you gotta go to Gritty McDuff's brewpub in the Old Port area. Whatever you choose, it's hard to go wrong if you're looking for seafood.

Get ready for hills. On top of munjoy hill there used to be a shop next to a pub, saw a track bike out front last time I was there. Check out the old port. Strange Maine and bull moose for records and stuff. There's good stuff down by the water, could try the muddy rudder too.

Portland really isn't Maine, it's more of an extension of the MA north shore.
Tourists like Becky's on the waterfront. https://www.roadfood.com/Reviews/Over...spx?RefID=2611
I like Rosie's in the Old Port area. I think it's the only real fisherman's bar in Portland, and kind of reminds me of the old Chatham Squire the first time I staggered in in the early '80s.
Neal, I've found that Maine seafood is very lobster-centric. Since I don't care for lobster, I haven't found better seafood in Maine than can be found on Cape Cod or Cape Ann, and most often not as good.
Bath Bike and Ski (Bikeman) is worth the trip up RT1. In Wiscasset is Red's Eats, reputed to be the best lobster roll in the free world. https://www.roadfood.com/Reviews/Over...spx?RefID=2959.

Where is (south Portland based) Sauerwald when we need him?

Yeah, not a lobster man myself. I'll eat it, but I'd rather have a bowl of chowder. Best I've had recently is actually Portsmouth Brewery's in New Hampshire
