And what's this "expert's" e-mail addy... not that I plan on using it for any nefarious purposes or anything.

Heck, I'm that expert. You can always PM me. That's the seller refering to good old me.

To his credit, the seller did not refer to himself as an "expert".

Interesting, the only equipment on his bike I refered to was the cottered crank and steel rims, which I guess don't exist. I did make the mistake of listing the equipment on the better Jeunets, though, so I think he possibly got confused.

Fine, then the seller's address, that's who I was referring to in the first place, since, going by his ad and the reply sent to you, he considers himself something not entirely unlike an expert.

Alas, it was all via the wonder of ebay; I learned long, long ago not to give sellers me email until I actually won something. Don't think-- or care-- that I got his; it's not like I want an extended conversation with this doofus. I did send him a last little note, however.

Yeah, that guy has an exceedingly high arrogance/knowledge ratio. It's downright funny, except for his suckers, uh, I mean buyers.

Sheesh, that list keeps growing. Pretty soon it'll be 100+ items, at this rate.

Interesting, the viral nature of the internet.

And, you know, a while back a seller i.d.ed one of these Jeunets as being 531.

I told him to measure the post, and he realized the error and rewrote the auction.

This guy's the other extreme.

Aw, c'mon. Now you're teasing people because they're ignorant of nomenclature?

Actually, when I worked in bike shops in NYC, there was an entire "alternate" set of terms that some customers would use:

star = freewheel
bull handlebars = drop handlebars
frame = rim
rim = wheel
tubaliss tires = tubular tires
fix = fixed gear bike

I can't remember any others offhand.

I guess my tastes have changed over the years. I don't think a young woman who uses the term "Rad to the power of Sick" could sell anything but skateboards. I don't have any 46cm 21 inch bikes either, hehe.,,,,BD

The only road bikes I would sell for $50-$100, they wouldn't want.....

Well, supply and demand perhaps?

I too get frustrated at the greed. Craigslist, I thought, was for freeing up space in your appartment and trying to make a couple bucks in the process. An extended stoop sale of sorts. It's gotten out of hand. Which is why I peruse the CL is smaller communities where friends and family live.

But there's no sense whining about it. You can see when the same bike gets reposted week after week that not everyone gets what they ask for.

...AND HERE'S AN EXAMPLE...

$300 for an entry-level bike (lowest on the Fuji road bike pyramid) that isn't even N.O.S., which it should be for that price...

1980 Fuji Monterey 10 speed bicycle

I'm selling my beautiful black 1980 Fuji Monterey 10 speed bicycle for $299. I am the second owner of the bike and it's been well cared for. I love this bike! It's in excellent condition and rides like a dream. It really looks in "new" condition for a 30 year old bicycle. I had new tubes and tires put on it last summer, plus new handlebar tape, a custom headlight and a new fork just last month. It's fully tuned and ready to go! Brakes and gears work flawlessly and both rims are true. I hate to see it go because they really don't make them like this anymore. This bicycle has a 25" frame so it's perfect for riders 6 feet or taller. Come test it out before you buy. Available for pick up in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Please leave a contact number for a quick response. Thanks!

Somewhere there's a new place in Chicago to buy fixed gears; just look around until you find it. I'll give you a hint - it's on the north side. Ready, go.

Chicago has a new place to get fixed gear bikes and accessories - $1 (Northside)

I was going to post this one too! Funny, I was like, they should fire whoever posted the ad, well that's only about a 100,000 places to look give or take 10,000.
