At least the price is right...
Antique Schwinn!
...must be because it includes a picture of the bike and the barn it was found in, signed by the guy holding the camera (errrr, "photographer").

This PDG mountain bike seems to have shed its skin in the intervening decades for Yokota livery

For those who don't know the story of Ciocc here it is in a nut shell. In 1977 the world bicycle championship race in San Cristobal was won by an Italian man. His nickname was "Poker Face" which in Italian is "Ciocc", this is a replica of the bike he won that race on. Every year since that year they replicate the bike frame and then sell top of the line Italian bikes with it. In 1998 when this bike was purchased it was for $8000.00. I still have all the original Campagnolo parts on it, and I've replaced the seat with a San Marco vintage white leather seat, which is the most desirable Italian seat you could have for this bike. I don't want to sell the bike at all, but I'm in a position that I have to unfortunately. If you are interested give me a call or text me xxx xxx xxxx anytime. This is the nicest bike I've ever owned, it turns bike nerds heads everywhere you go. Make me an offer, I'm open to it.

^Hard to believe that it cost $8000 in 1998. That's a lot of moola for any non-carbon pro race bike!

You guys should see this guy's other ads, i guess he's trying to use the "sex sells" approach to selling.

unfortunately his models all look like they just stopped by on the way to work at the local gentlemen's club and i'm not referring to the high end ones.

Haha.....love those pics, what is this guy on??

Anyhoo, found this ad on the local Gumtree here in Australia, did make me laugh. Think it might take a bit more than a MIG and some hand tools to get this pile of scrap metal into a bicycle again!

"You won't find too many of these about! Rare Limited Edition 27" 1980 Moscow Olympics 10 Speed Bike. All original, but needs a full resto. Back tyre has slow leak. Anyone who can use a mig welder and hand tools should be able to have it looking good in no time. Restore it and you have a classic Malvern Star worth mega bucks!"

Back tyre has a slow leak??? Think that's the least of it's problems. And all this can be yours for a paltry $200!!!

Ha ha - I thought something similar; was this Doc's prototype before he came up with the more practical DeLorean?

Hey! I used to have one of those! It was actually a high tech noggin protector for it's day. That was around 30 years ago, however.

A Skid Lid. I had one of those. I'd still say that, given the most probable head knock in a fall, these things were effective.

Asking price is more than fair, but the only way this cost $500 in the 70s is by having the tubes lined with cocaine. Who would hang this on a wall?

[h=2] Raleigh road bike - $50 (GLENSIDE)[/h]

This 1970s era Raleigh road bike has been sitting in a basement for 20 years and is ready for someone to restore it to its past glory or for the collector to hang on their wall. This bike was top of the line in its day (cost $500 new in the 70s) and still has all the original parts.

I like Giordana cycling clothing. Their bibs, ls jerseys and other items are extremely comfortable for me and if you are patient you get get some great deals on last year's models on ebay. I have Giordana as a search term and I get items automatically on my scroll. This morning I was greeted by this. Creeped me out a bit.

[h=2]overpriced "vintage" bikes - $1 (everywhere)[/h] To the people listing your "vintage" road bikes for up to the 200 dollar range, what gives you the nerve to do that? The bikes you have are most likely low end models. That weigh a ton. Stop selling your schwinn world sports and travelers, etc. With one piece cranks for over a hundred dollars. They are only worth about 30 to 60. 60 if they are in almost in mint condition. And to the ****** bag in fullerton selling his "vintage road bike made in japan" I wouldn't pay more than 20 for that junk. And the people selling they're thruster fixies and gmc denalis for 100 or 150 for the denalis. Those are walmart bikes and have absolutely no re sale value. Stop selling for the exact amount you paid for.

There is some quality vintage bikes out there aswell. Sadly those are even more ridiculously over priced. They should be around 150 to 200 but people price them well past the 300s. Nishiki univega peugeot bridgestone and bikes similar to theses I see priced for up to 300 or more. Even the top tier bikes from the 80s only hold a 200 value if in great running condition

And free spirit bikes should be thrown in the trash all of those are free bikes or highest value of 5 dollars.

Easy way to tell quality in older road bikes is to see what they are made of. If it doesn't have a sticker showing what its made of its most likely a lower end bike. Look for chromoly bikes a lot of quality bikes were made of chromoly steel. Another way to tell is where the shifters are. Lower qulity bikes have stem shifters located next to the handle bars. Down tube shifters and bar end shifters were put on higher quality bikes. If the wheels are steel most likely its a lower end bike. Look for alloy wheels or alluminum. The lighter the bike the better quality it is. All the steel parts of a low end bike will definately weigh it down

If you have any questions about any bike on craigslist you can email me and ill tell you the worth and if its a good bike.

Lower end bikes aren't not completely worth less. They make good commuters and bikes to ride in the winter and rainy seasons. Get one if you can get it for under a hundred dollars
