Mountain bike for sale - $400 (se portland)

2 year old bike for sale
great shocks, brakes need a little tightening
Solid black with skate stickers on it
you can contact me at: 503-515-1906

$400 might seem high, but you have to consider the high quality pics and rad skate decals. /snark

I might be wrong, but this sure looks like a beat up pos WallyWorld mtb that's worth maybe 1/10th of what the seller is asking.

You're not wrong, I had a pretty much identical bike my SO's brother had found on the railroad tracks abandoned...

Yup....I use the same one.....that's the search engine that constantly makes me blubber like a baby seeing all the reasonable prices outside the Pacific Northwest.

The tipoff for me was the cheap looking rear and front shocks, and the twist grip shifters. Plus all the skate stickers were obviously obscuring something......'NEXT' comes to mind....lol.

Good to know I am not completely off base on spotting junk mtbs.

This might help even more with that keen eye, since I put halfway decent components on it and painted it. It has since been sent to the recyclers to DIE DIE DIE. I never could get it running exactly right, think it had to do with the frame "quality".

Teon- I'm certain that's a 1996 Gary Fisher Joshua X that's been rattlecanned black with the fork boots removed. Here's an unmolested example: http://0.static.wix.com/media/25d3e7...c9c74.jpg_1024

You'll see that the frame and components match up perfectly.

Here's the specs:
http://www.bikepedia.com/QuickBike/B...model=Joshua+X
MSRP $1,199.00 and it's certainly not 2 years old!

Here's a classic Raleigh made in Knotting Ham.
I'd buy it for $70. I always liked this paint scheme.

The rare Kalkoff. I think this guy is on year 4, maybe, of listing this bike. He's really upped the picture content though. I want to go buy this thing and throw it in lake Michigan. So tired of seeing this POS.

This kind of stuff always makes me shake my head:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Caloi-Alumin...item35d211da41

Caloi makes decent bikes, but this one is missing the seat and post, and the derailleur and they're asking $400 for it. I have basically the same bike, like new with about 50 miles on it, WITH front suspension, and I can't get $250 for it locally!

i did think it was a nice touch though, that the seller is offering to remove the wheels and turn the handlebars, so the bike won't have to be shipped in a 4' x 4' x 8' crate...

"Curly cue handlebars"

I always wondered what they're called.

This seller spent a lot of time researching this beautiful bike and doing a great write-up then posts a pile of hi-res photos of it with the fork mounted backwards...

I agree, I think this may be the longest continually listed bike I've observed (over and over and over again). The seller also started listing it on eBay (over and over...): http://www.ebay.com/itm/151225997036

I'm not sure why the seller thinks that including terms "like schwinn super sport" in the listing will make it sell, as it only pisses off people who might be looking for those (like me). I hear you about throwing it into the lake but I'd get more satisfaction out of first throwing it on a bonfire, then the following day chucking the still smoldering lump into the recycle bin. <g>

Iversion grand sport 10 limited edition road bike - $275 - Craigslist NY

The pitch:

Hi Craigslist,

I have a limited edition road bike.

Meade in Europe using Japanese shimano components

Everything is in 100% working condition

No rust

I can give you the seat for $200. But I will put in another road bike seat

Thanks

I had one of these back in the 70s. Actually made in Queens NY. Absolute bottom of the bucket garbage that went for about 60 bucks new from a department store. Weighs a ton. The rear brake cable is the best on this anchor. I almost think this is a gag posting!

He could've done with having someone proofread & edit his text though, i.e. "Resent feedback"? A quick google search revealed how much plagiarism is at work here as well: http://www.chainreaction.com/klein.htm.

I would say he put a new twist on brake cable routing

Sorry....I know it's a poor pun but I couldn't resist. On a lighter note: +1 on "Absolute bottom of the bucket garbage"

To their credit, they did give Chainreaction credit in the writeup.

i agree it looks like something is amiss with the front of this bike, but I don't think it is as simple as a front fork turned around? I can't tell from the pics what has been done, but the fork bridge seems to be in the right spot, but the wheel axle is behind the tubes. Seems like that should be in front as well? I don't know if it is possible, but it almost looks like someone took apart the fork for service, then reassembled with the slider tubes backward?

No, it's just backwards. Some of the long travel, disc specific forks have the brace behind the legs. Note the position of the crown and the fact the the disc is on the wrong side too.

Someone from here must have contacted the seller as the auction is down and the images have been pulled. Bet it comes back soon with the fork on properly.

They have a lot of nice, clean, high-end bikes listed. Odd that they didn't catch this.
