Road Bike Good Condition

I have seen several Walmart level discount store FG/SS with this bad of setup fork backwards that have been riden for a year or more. The sad thing is most where sold that way new at the peak of the Fixie craze.

Or they are too dark to even see the bike...

Pricing's kinda ambitious as well for a department-store fixed/single.

Looks like a hipster starter bike and that the seller (millennial with poor mechanical aptitude) is trying to get most of the initial investment back.

Despite bad pic fairly nice vintage 24inch BMX no way $20. Should be $250 hard bottom price wise.

So...question...how can you tell? I cannot even really see the bike...or are you being sarcastic? If it is that nice, I will go get it...

zukahn1 04-12-14 11:07 AM

Well even from the bad pic I can a fairly nice multibolt goose neck maybe landing gear forks most likely better 24inch based on frame style. But the add is scketchy as hell and the bike is likely hot stolen. I wouldn't go near this one even at the low price.

I have a friend from work who faithfully rode a Northrock (Costco I think) hybrid to work, I'd see it parked outside every day. One day took a closer look, and the handlebars were installed backwards! (Not to mention that the derailleur cables had come loose, so he was stuck with a single small/small speed). I offered him a free tuneup, I rode the bike home and my arms almost broke off it was so anti-ergonomic with the handlebars bending away. He got the bike back and was blown away how much better it was.

Bent fork. Now, this one looks different.

Some standout quotes from the posting:

"Manufactured in March of 1969"
"a great touring or commuter bike"
"The top tube and down tube are bent downward"
"Yes, I know the frame is "BENT"
"I won't accept your inane low ball offers"

Eh, seems fine to me. The writing is terrible, but I think the seller understands he's selling a damaged bike for parts.

Feel free to disagree with me, but.....

Caad8
"Size 54cm. Suit rider 170cm to 185cm"

Ok, it's not that wacky, but I wanted to complain somewhere. :D 185 is obviously almost 6ft1. A 6ft1 guy on a 54?! Parleeeeeze! And Caads have small head tubes. I'm sure it happens, but still......

Well...for the price, the parts are worth it...

Or...you could, like in a previous posting here, put cardboard in place of the missing seat tube...I am sure that would hold a rider up to about 50 lbs! This is pretty amazing...makes you wonder how that section of seat tube got taken out!!!

Pretty sure that's a Mavic SSC rear derailleur as well....so yeah, for $50 and some simichrome paste that could actually be a pretty good find.

My guess is it just rusted through. Probably two places on the seat tube where the paint was gone and bare metal quickly rusted through due to flood damage. Hopefully stainless or chrome or whatever protected the rest of the parts...

J.Oxley 04-15-14 10:25 AM

Okay, I'll admit. It's a pretty entertaining build. Like if Dr Seuss went BMX.
Maybe he will get his price if some Who in Whoville thinks it's nice.

[h=2]Custom Cruiser adult-sized fun - $450 (vancouver wa)[/h]http://images.craigslist.org/00n0n_5...HY_600x450.jpg
I am selling my custom-built Frankenstein cruiser, featuring 41" ape-hangers, a pair of 144-spoke Dayton wheels, purple tires, red vintage grips, red string seat. It is a bit of a silly project, but I'd like to sell it now as I've had my fun with it and would like to make some $$ off of it... and I want someone to enjoy it. Any questions?

Nice looking bike, but I think he meaured the seat tube all the way to the saddle.

Classic TRIUMPH 3-speed Bicycle - $20 (Longfellow/South Minneapolis)

Yup, you read right: Here's a classic English-built TRIUMPH three-speed bicycle, as shown in the photos. No, it's not complete and yes, it needs a rear wheel and some cleaning up. These bicycles in good shape sell for $150 to $200 and more. This is a fine parts bike or the starting point for a restoration.

The frame's straight. The paint's nicely and evenly oxidized.

First $20 gets it.

Way to put a positive spin on it.

Almost anything is worth $20. That's a good deal just for front wheel and fenders.

Weird one liner description on a $3,000 Sherrell Streamliner. And then they used a stock photo from 2008.

^ Yeah. Fixable by stripping the parts and throwing the frame in the skip...

RubeRad 04-17-14 09:15 AM

maybe it's a lens effect or something, but the seatstays also appear to be very slightly bowed.
