I say, call that collector back up and offer him the bike for $950. If he doesn't jump all over the opportunity, wonder why.

Hey, folks, I don't want any of my listings to end up here in the wacky thread. So when I sell Schwinn Varsitys or similar bikes, I'm thinking of pricing them at $150. They'll be in absolutely perfect running order once I sell them. That's not wacky, is it?

$120-$150 is the going price for perfect running order(and condition) Varsity's or similar bikes, around here anyway? Was that supposed to be an undervalued estimate?,,,,BD

I'm new to selling restored bikes. My question is whether $150 is good for this type of bike. I'm thinking a ten-speed style bike should be $150 with steel rims and about $200 if it's moderately light and has alloy rims.

Not bad. Of course any non Schwinn steel rimmed bike cannot even be given away here, unless it's a beach cruiser.,,,,BD

Not bike related, but just stumbled upon a site, "You Suck At Craigslist". Sort of a Worst Of Craiglist blog. Good cheap laughs if you need more than are provided here.

I now return you to your regular thread.

They put a high-end crank and external bearing BB on a hi-ten frame, AND kept the turkey levers...

Gotta love people.

How about a $3500 Univega? Lots of great parts, but I'm pretty sure Rivendell would build you a pretty swanky brand new bike for that much.

The original ad- which seems overpriced, but I don't know beans about high-end tandem frames, either:
https://austin.craigslist.org/bik/1318433767.html
"Reduced! Willits uptube 29-inch tandem frame, chrome-moly 20.5/17 with fork and stems. Will paint to suit."

A response today:
https://austin.craigslist.org/bik/1318734963.html
"Whatchoo talkin' bout, Willits? - $3000 (Austin, TX)
:Honestly, guy, do you have to post this thing EVERY day? Clearly nobody's interested in a $3000 tandem bike frame. How the hell did you arrive at that figure anyway? Sure, it's probably a very nice, hand-built frame, but damn, it's still only a handful of steel tubes. This ain't the dot-com boom days, honey, nobody in Austin has three grand to dump on a bike frame these days. Hang it up and wait for the economy to turn around, then maybe you'll find an idiot with more money than sense.
"Please, please, please cut your posting of this ad back to once or twice a week. Being reminded every single day of this sad, unwanted thing sitting there under the cactus painting, on its credenza, unsold, is painful for the rest of us, like being forced to watch a puppy starve to death."

Response ads are posted right with the regular ads.

Usually they are titled with something like: re:Schwinn Varsity - $500 - are you crazy?

And such like that.
