I am a bit surprised that the bike hasn't sold, but it is hard to compete with the NEW Chinese tandems starting at around $300.

That is awesome, and almost worth the entire price just for that kicka$$ Darth Vader seat! It could use a cockpit upgrade, but it looks very well done for a homebrew.

Eddy Merckx Grand Prix Bicycle. This bike has Reynolds 753 steel tubing. It has mostly Shimano Dura-Ace parts. It has some rust on it and it has a 3 holes on the underside of the top tube. This bike is estimated (by an Eddy Merckx dealer) to be from 88-90. I measured the frame size to be 48 cm. I measured from the center of the crank to where the top tube and seat tube meet (measurement is shown in pictures). Sales tax must be collected. Feel free to ask any questions!

Thought this one was a bit overpriced. Then I reached the picture of the bottom of the top tube. Yikes.

OUCH....

If it was only about 3" taller, I might pay the $14.00 asking price for that bike :thumb:

Welcome to the Wacky Thread!!!!

That is a tall bike for an MTB.

I looked up the 87 Avalanche... Found this from 2012.

And, I think the same bike for sale today!!!!
Budget Bicycle Center - Vintage 1987 GT Avalanche All-Terra Mountain Bike Suntour XC 18" bicycle Toyo

So, perhaps you can expect years worth of reposts for your Avalanche!!!!!!!

I do find it interesting that expensive "quality" MTBs were all the rage in the mid 80's.
And it is hard to give them away today.

Yet, despite decades of hard use, my old Road Bike has pretty much held its value, perhaps even appreciated some, at least considering that I had bought it used years ago.

This one gets posted three times EVERY day. One ad for $245, one for $195, and still another for $160. I don't get their logic.,,,,BD

I'm not sure, but I never knew quill stems could be that long. Craigslist, obviously.

I bought this one a couple weeks ago because:

A. It was $10

B. Because F you that's why.

Seriously though, I'll probably hang it on the wall and use it to beat intruder thugs to death if need be. Never can be too safe!

Child seat technology has come so, so far since the 70's. This looks as safe as a lawn chair bungeed to the rear triangle.

Long ago, I had an uncle that was involved in some "unclaimed freight" auctions.
He said, what would happen, is that the customer buys the stuff, gets it in, and it's broken, defective, doesn't work, whatever.
So they get mad and send it back "freight collect".
The seller doesn't want to pay return freight to get their non-functional merchandise back.
So it goes unclaimed, nobody wants it because they all know it doesn't work.
So sometimes, you could get good deals at the "unclaimed freight" auctions, but you had to really have your eyes open on stuff like that.

I agree. And it reminds me that I have never seen anyone try, but I can't imagine getting on and off a bike with a child seat... unless it was a step through.
