I saw those bikes on E-Bay a while ago. Or someone posted about them. They look like pretty sweet bikes.

But it is hard for me to accept all that fancy aero stuff, then the cheapest shifters available, odd brake placement, cheap derailleurs...

It is hard to judge the rest of the bike, but I don't have a lot of faith that it is of any higher quality than the GMC Denali bikes for a lot less.

^^ If you've gotta name your bike MACHETE! and go with 90s-era tribal graphics you're probably trying to compensate for something.

Well, that's what the ad claims, anyhow. For the money I like this one better

They've got one of those hanging up at our local bike co-op. I wonder if it was actually commercially made...

Such things appear with some regularity. A couple years ago my charity club was looking for bike donations and wound up with a few "Cyco Cycles" (to be read: Psycho cycles, but more fun to say: pycockicles) which are misbegotten tricycle unicycle thingies.

What an idiot. Take a nearly mint condition chrome lugged Fuji, turn it into a worthless pile of newer replacement parts, and then charge big money when you get tired of looking at it.,,,,BD

At least he did not butcher the frame, but he is asking too much for it.

Those have got to be the smallest fenders I have ever seen -- what's the point? Esp. the rear one, if you're going to have gorgeous wood, have a lot of it!

I have to disagree... a bit.
The bike looks sharp. Longer fenders might be nice (matching?), but the short ones are less intrusive. And, I think he has gotten away without the fender wires which are always a bit pain.

The horizontal dropouts make it a good candidate for fixie conversion.

I suppose I still don't understand the fixie craze though

I wouldn't pay half the asking price though. Be prepared to see that bike on Craigslist for quite some time.

Maybe short fenders have a cleaner appearance, but what do they do? No fenders is an even cleaner appearance, with similar performance.

The rear fender covering the rack area is the most important for protecting the backside. The downtube will take a lot of the forward spray. The rear fender could be shortened as the spray comes off at a tangent, so anything beyond horizontal is not necessary (for the rider in the front, it may help with drafting).

The front fender should protect the pants and shoes. However, the most annoying thing with the front is getting sprayed in the face. With water spray coming off of the tire at a tangent, there is a critical point where the spray can come below the fork and peel off and up into the face (depending on fork crown clearance). It likely takes very little fender to protect from that.

===============

Oh, that is Houston. Does it ever rain in Houston? I think the fenders are just for show

road bike - $250

Oh...

Yes, it does actually come with a front wheel. Just too much work to install it for the photoshoot.

Not to mention, of course, one can buy a brand new ZeroGrav bike from Amazon for $235.90 including free shipping

I suppose the assembly is worth that extra $14.10????

Look at those shifters! (better view on the amazon link) I've never seen those before, surprised they're actually Shimano. They remind me of an old Suntour wishbone shifter I once found in a parts bin, except they rotate forward/back instead of left/right.

Those are similar to the shifters on the Fuji Ace 24. The ace has an indexed 7s shifter. It works reasonably well, but I have troubles convincing my nephew to shift while pedalling.. he likes to set it, then hop on and ride.

Every once in a while I bump my stem shifters, so bar mounted shifters would be a good alternative.

Looking at the Amazon specs... now I'm confused.

Derailleur Shifter : A050 SIS Handlebar Mounted, Non-Index (Shimano)
Of course, when one looks up the definition of SIS, one gets: "Shimano Indexing System". And the descriptions of the A050 seem to indicate indexed.

Now I'm really confused.

Those look like the Weinmann inox fenders that are stock on my Raleigh Carlton. They actually do a decent job at keeping my ass and face dry when the roads are wet.

Same shifters that were on the Schwinn Varsity sold at Walmart not too long ago (maybe still). For low end shifters, they're not the worst I've used. Better feel than grip shifters.
