I had a bike up for sale for $100 on craigs list. reposted it 2 times over a week. The 3rd time I raised the price to $150 it sold the same day. Guess every body knows you cant get a good bike for $100 , good bikes start at $150.

Did the same with an old amf three speed, just wanted it gone, so listed it for 15. Never heard anything. A few weeks later I posted it for $50 and sold it the next day.
What sucks is someone dropped an identical bike off later on, so I still have a clunky old AMF wasting space.

Ken.

I mean, technically it's like a sale, but when you're just selling one item, it looks weird.

Technically yes.. It's not like a gallon of milk that usually costs $3.00 and today it's $2.50 and the sale ends Sunday. A used bike's value is so subjective that's what was making me wonder if it made sense to price like that on CL.

The notion that any item or service might be overlooked if underpriced is valid IMO. Hmmm, that guy only wants $5 for that Colnago? Must be bent or something.

Definitely. And I think that some people pass on a really low priced bike because they think it can't possibly still be available. More than once, I can recall thinking, "...oh well, I'll send an inquiry, but I'm sure that bike has already been snapped up at that price...", only to be pleasantly surprised with a great deal.

"This is a very nice looking women's 19" raleigh English made 10-speed lightweight roadbike."

Don't know why such a nice looking woman would be seen on such an ugly bike.

mens 10 speed bike - $50 (winnabow,n.c.)
black in color, and has expensive seat cover

That was the ad in its entirety, so I badgered the poster for more info and only got this:

Im not sure its in my shed behind my house, yur welcom 2 com and chek it out if yu want

I'll be riding there to check it out tomorrow. I'm betting on it being a Huffy with a gel seat cover.

Hi Hipster,
Are your pink and black Wayfarer sunglasses not getting you the attention you were expecting? Extra tight girl jeans just not doing it? Well, I've got a solution for you! This is bound to make that moped you bought seem totally wiggity-wiggity-wack.
I think its a vintage Peugeot or maybe a Gazelle, possibly it's a Dutch Rudder... who knows or cares, get this bike and you'll be the talk of the dive bar you hang out in. PEDAL POWER!

I'm so firm on this price it is ********!
fire me off an e-dog and I'll holler back yo.

When stores do that, they emphasize the savings, not the jacked up price later. You won't ever see a store saying "Buy it today, or otherwise we'll double the price tomorrow!" Instead they say "50% off, today only!"

They also don't start with a low price, they start with the high price, sell all they can, then drop the price if the items aren't moving like they want.

Why doesn't CL get with the program and offer larger, sharper pictures? Take any picture you want and they'll shrink it down to an unrecognizable 100x100 pixel shot. No wonder these ads always suck.

World's lightest bicycle for sale. With shoe lock peddles.

racing ten speed - $300

ALL aluminum racing ten speed. weighs about 5 lbs very very nice condition i used it in my home on a stationary wheel for excercise in the winter. this bike is the same bike almost all racers use for training. It goes for well over the thousand dollar mark and has little wear if any. i have the brand new peddle upgrades that came with it(shoe locks) beautiful custom candy red paint job combined with silver everything about this bike screams racer.never been outside except in the garage

Add another layer of awesome with the fact that trainer sweat chews up bikes in a way that nothing short of winter salted slush can match.

$350?

Least you could do is shorten the chain.

I wish that guy would sell his bike; this is either the third or fourth time I've seen his ad show up on this thread.
