Taking the long way around the barn...

Need cheap but vaguely worthy 36h freewheel hub w/ 10mm axle (Olympia)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm building some framebuilding wheels that are probably going to not ever be ridden, but I'm hedging things a little by building them up with stuff that wouldn't be too jank to ride in some application or another, and I need a rear hub. I need it to be a freewheel hub that takes an M10x1 standard axle. Some hubs made in the days of 130 or 135 spacing can't be spaced down to 120 like I need, so I'd have to look at it and see, but hubs originally spaced 120 or 126 will be fine in this regard (and there are only a very few freewheel hubs that came 130 or 135 I'd want anyway).

It's fine in theory if it's a cartridge hub, but it has to be a standard axle, not shouldered, just 10x1 all the way. It also has to have zero play in the state I'm using it, which I believe all standard axle cartridge hubs are capable of, but there are always exceptions so again I'll have to see.

In the more likely case that it's a cup and cone hub, it has to have undamaged bearing surfaces. If you've got something that feels good but you're not sure beyond that, I can check it out for you . It can have a bent axle because the axle is going to be replaced with a brand new humorously long tandem axle anyway.

Basically looking for a hub that would have been or was highly rideable for an enthusiast 30 years ago, but is simply not quite worth building up for most purposes anymore. Not a super-duper vintage hub, but something that was made to copy them pretty well.

I have rims already, so that's why it needs to be 36. I have a front hub in mind but if you've got a set, I'm interested. (Front needs to be M9, standard axle less important as long as it can be made 100mm exactly with smooth surfaces and zero play).

A trade would be great. I have a lot of bike parts and tools, bike-specific and not. Tell me what you're looking for. Will buy too, but I'm looking for a parts bin queen of a freewheel hub here, so be reasonable. Thanks!

(Note that I'm not including track hubs in the above because the world isn't exactly overflowing with this sort of track hub just sitting around valueless, is it?)

Its almost like he would have rather sold the tires and new parts and work rather than the bike which is downplayed.

Who wouldn't want a carbon fiber framed bike with a cracked top tub with some rubber wrapped around the crack??? Seller says it is safe, so it must be, right.

It really looks like they are selling it for the parts, but still....

Hello craiglist. I have a bicycle for trade. I have posted it before and i got some mail but im posting again.
as you see, frame set is carbon.
this bike has crack on upper side of toptube, , and I wrapped with rubber tape. (my bold)
the frame size is 50cm. if you are under 200lb, you are fine. you might feel unsafe or uncomfortable, but it's really fine.
or you can simply replace the frame.

I am secondary owner, I replaced the shifter, as dura-ace, It is almost 2008 model. with new wires.
chain has also been changed and driven less than 50 miles.
tires have no problem either.
other parts are ultegra,(front) 105(rear).
it's normal pedal is barely functional, you may want a new pair.
it has not been ridden for a while. in very good condition.
the handle bar is cut and is easier to ride for me.
it's good. I assure. selling for recovering financial condition from my stacked bad luck.

Bicycle Painting! Get your bike painted the RIGHT way - $1 (san jose north)

Date: 2010-05-22, 3:01PM PDT
Reply to: sale-uvbdb-1754529075@craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?]

If anyone needs their bike painted, i could do that professionally. I use Krylon and Dupli- Color rattle cans, and it makes for a beautiful job. I also remove Braze-ons such as brake holders and shifter cable holders. If you do want your bike painted, it will take at least 1 day, (but not ride able for 24 hours after that) or longer depending on what you need me to do. I have a small painting studio where no dust or wind gets in so it makes for a clean finish.
Email at: Cheezedom@gmail.com if you want me to paint your bike PROFESSIONALLY, and i could give a rough pricing also if you post the picture of what you want painted and what you want done to the bike.

"I have a Hebb E-Bike that I am reluctantly forced to sell. I purchased this bike several months ago and I LOVE it. The bike odometer only reads 172 miles...."
I don't think people ever really stop to think what their ad means. I've seen a number of ads that say basically, "This is the most marvelous bike, I love it, but it's unused." And you just can't have both, really. On the flip side, I remember seeing a $15 single-speed cruiser for sale that said "I love this bike and have ridden it all over town for months" and that's the one that makes sense.

I have to give them some credit for being thorough and showing pride in the finished product. I just wish people would quit grinding derailler hangers off. Does it really ruin the aesthetic that badly?

It looks to be a track bike which has a road bike rear wheel and cassette jammed into the track-specific dropouts (obviously without any thought as to how that's going to mess up the spacing). No shifters, so I guess the rider was using it as a hackneyed singlespeed frankenbike?

But don't worry, all will be well - it has a rear brake for that massive "stops inside a city block" power.
