Hi,
I saw your ad on Craigslist and I want this bike. Unfortunately I can not afford $2000 so I am offering $1950. Is this OK with you?

Can you please send me more pictures? I would like to see what the inside of the tubes look like and a picture of each chain link would be great.

I will be in your area on Monday so I can pick up the bike then. Can you put it in a Wal-Mart bag for me so I can take it on the buss?

Many Thanks
Billy Bianchi

Okay, here's mine:

Sir: I implore you, do not sell this Bianchi for the ridiculously low price you have listed. I have reason to believe that you in fact have found the fabled Lost Bianchi of Coppi. It was last seen in North Africa, being carried off by a swarm of malarial mosquitos. For a long time it has been presumed lost and likely destroyed, as mosquitos are notoriously hard on bicycles.

Whatever you do, please do not sell this bicycle until I and my team of graduate assistants have flown out to make some key measurements and observations. The fate of several dissertations hangs in the balance.

Sincerly,
Irving Julius Quackenbush

"I suspect toeclips and shoes with slotted cleats would work as well or better at standing up to the rigors of fixed gear freestyle riding, but Van's doesn't make a shoe that can accommodate slotted cleats."

and who does make slotted cleats and shoes today (Dromarti is all that springs to mind)? and how are you going to wear leather or plastic soled shoes in a pub that has a sticky-slippry floor?

Hey, that wood grain paint job took a lot of work, and I can imagine paying $400 for just the paint job. I suspect it's an ordinary cheap frame, but I don't think the price is out of line.

"graffietti di normale utilizzo" translates as "scratches from normal use". Judging from the photo, I'm not sure I'd classify this bike as one that was used normally ...

I'll give him this though: It sure as hell got my attention when I was browsing!

He quoted the owner of a bike shop in San Pedro, CA. The problem is, I know the shop and the owner, who happens to have been in business since this dumb kid's father in elementary school, and there is no way in hell he would have given such appraisal. So I called up the owner and he denied having appraised the bike, of course. Then the kid goes on to say the appraisal was really $1,000 and in a private message to me tells me that Bianchi Girl gave him that appraisal. For those of us that know and respect BG's encyclopedic knowledge of Bianchis there is no question that this guy's full of it. Now a neighborhood kid has expressed interest in the bike and I'll be taking him to see it on Tuesday. But the kid has much better sense and has made an offer 1/10th of the asking price and now they're haggling the details. Will probably sell for $250 to $300 my guess. I recommended the lower price of course.

Good work. I figured that bike was nowhere near "worth" that price, regardless of who gave him the appraisel.

If that kid gets it for $200-$300 like you said? that'd be totally hysterical.......

Campagnolo Nuovo/SR crank arms. Note that it's just the arms, and the seller clearly states "there are tiny cracks where the spiders meet the arms (last 3 pictures)."

Yet...with 30 minutes remaining...45 bids and $81.00!

It didn't sell at $100, makes sense to bump the price a little.

I guess $100 bike tune-ups these days does not include tightening the seat bolts.
