Perhaps the flat tires just prevent a test ride, and the discovery of additional faults.
It's why I always bring floor pump when I check out a used bike. I definitely want to test ride the bike, and I definitely want to see how the tires look pumped up to full pressure. Pointing out the large cracks in the rubber may get a more sympathetic listening from the seller when you make a significantly lower offer than he's asking. "Well, it's going to need $40 worth of new tires to be rideable."

I am hopeful that that 'Paramount' was a brief mistake by the company as they no longer list any road bikes on their website.

That's my own cynical reasoning for why people do it.

But Paramount Series is a couple steps down - still good, just not top. Schwinn expanded the Paramount name to their higher overseas-made bikes in the late 80's, and "Paramount Series 5" is re-used from an early 90's Panasonic-made bike that had 105 components... just like this one. You may not like aluminum bikes but this is a good example of one. It sells at Performance Bike, not Walmart.
Why would they have the Paramount and also the Paramount Series? It just seems purposely confusing. I always thought of the Paramount as being something head and shoulders above the rest. This one just seems like any other cookie cutter aluminium frame that just happens to say Paramount.

In a word, marketing. That's my guess. The Paramounts were the flagship bikes of the company and anyone who knew anything about bikes knew that. When they started the PDG (Paramount Design Group) bikes, the PDG7, the PDG5 and the PDG3 and the others (including mountain bikes), most of them built by Panasonic/National in Japan, they were building good bikes but were capitalizing on the fame and rep of the Paramount name to sell a decent line of bikes that were not real Paramounts.

That's a lot of zeros in there.

I think I'd expect a Mig-25 for that.

Ok, maybe not quite enough to get the Mig....

But, $10,000 for shipping???

Or is that in Iraqi Dinar? Let's see, 10,000 Dinar = $8.42 USD...... A little more for Canadian dollars.

Beautiful Peugeot Bike, which ran perfectly fine, until somebody stole the front wheel. I lack the tools to put on a new one. I can give you a tube and tire to it, so you only need a new wheel.

Did it come with a quick release? Nonetheless, it is only a one minute job with either bolt on wheels or with the QR.

The bike is being sold at "Union Station".

Are you sure it was the front wheel that was stolen and not the frame and rear wheel that was stolen?

For display bike or not, think I'd be afraid of selling these. At least the seller acknowledged the error in modification.

This guy would probably get long with guy that built the propeller bike. And you know people who build stupid bikes like this, don't think about safety issues.

Here is a very quality bike to ride a Miyata (Trek design) 312 road bike and this is a 12 speed. The frame is 25" and that is being measured from the center of the crank to the top of the seat post and the stand over height is 34 1/2 " I was told that this is the same frame design as found on Trek bikes.....Just a GREAT bike in GREAT condition....Look over the pictures..$250.00 Call

That is kind of a cute old/new comparison, with the same brand and model name.

Nothing wrong with the red bike, other than missing the front derailleur, shift levers, and all the derailleur cables.

Oh, and I'd carefully inspect the paint damage right behind the headtube.

The new Sagres (2005-ish) looks a lot like the Fuji Ace. I could imagine it would make a nice commuter bike if it had drop bars fitted.

Well, the name "Miyata" could almost be Italian... except the Italians don't use the letter "Y".

Sorry... I couldn't resist.

The Japanese effectively flooded the market back 30 or 40 years or so ago. Perhaps they did, in fact, copy other brands. Many of the bikes followed Schwinn, Huffy, and Murray.

However, I suppose they may have also had a few really nice models. Maybe with more of a European influence than an American influence. That ad was a bit heavy with the TREK references

=========

Thinking of my personal history. During the late 70's and early 80's, I would have been looking at used bikes, so probably 60's and 70's models, and really kind of ignored the Japanese bikes. By 1982, I was riding Italian steel, and may not have looked at any new bikes after that. Certainly nothing over $100. I did have a friend with a Vitus, I think. But, I seem to have completely missed the 80's to 2000 or so.

[h=2]1988 Bridgestone Synergy RB-3[/h]Raising the seat will cost you $200. Actually, $200 is the fee for photoshopping in an extended seatpost (somehow the top of the seatpost got lost in the process, apparently).
