So you think some of those bikes posted above are gonna be on CL for a while? This one - which I posted a link to back when it was $1,000 a few weeks ago - is probably gonna set some records for time spent languishing on CL..

My MIL's neighbor's young (~6 YO) son's bike had the aero swept back fork feature. I told the father about it, and that it is a very easy thing to fix. I was told it came like that from the store (XMart or ToysRUs), and besides, it didn't really matter because he is finding it impossible to learn to ride... ummm... maybe it would be easier to learn if it behaved like a normal bicycle.

Here is a gigantic pile of bikes! Yikes! $20,000 for 4,000 bikes. I am willing to bet there are at least 3 or 4 good bikes in that pile.

It's either the work of an American-picker wannabe looking for gold or a person with a severe hoarding problem.
Either way, doesn't seem like the seller knows the true value of what they have - which is nowhere near $20,000. At one cent per pound for steel (being generous there), you might get about $500-600 scrap value. That assumes no transport / haul-away costs.

I would think it would be best to separate most of the steel, aluminium, rubber, plastic, and perhaps stainless, although I think some of the processing equipment can shred it, then separate magnetically and by density.
I could just imagine stripping and pepping, maybe 10 bikes an hour... one still would have hundreds of hours tearing down bikes. Faster? A bike every 2 minutes?

The best thing for that hoard would be to get some connex boxes, pile them full, and ship them to some African town to give to the locals to fix up and use.
I think there was a Canadian on here a while asking for kids bikes for a remote village.

Seems like a great idea except the shipping cost would probably be very high. But why are we even discussing this? Soon the seller will have his $20K and be rid of the problem.

We have another real winner here. This brand of bike ONLY comes from a yearly Christmas giveaway to underprivileged children. Most are single speed, and are Wally World quality or worse. Asking $225 for this bike, is like trying to sell a $10 bill for $100.,,,,BD

Beautiful. Functional. They may have gotten it half right, though I'm skeptical. And what's with the kickstand? If we're going full green-out, complete with rims painted while the tires are still mounted, there is absolutely no reason to slack on this critical piece of hardware. Effect ruined. I quit.
[h=2]Beautiful Functional Ivy Leaf Bike - $120 (Downtown)[/h]
It looks strange, and it rides great!
Underneath the ivy, it's a 21 speed Schwinn, 16" frame, 26" wheels.
It has front and rear safety lights, plus great additional safety/beauty lights: a neon green electroluminescent (EL) wire on the frame and blue LED lights around the front wheel for additional beauty and visibility on dark streets.
plus!
A GENUINE EYEBALL BELL!! Dring Dring!
And a back rack. The tires are in great shape.

WHEW!!!!
How the heck does that happen? Maybe a trash collector hauling them home? How many? A dozen a day?
It might well be a good deal, but the little kids bikes are only worth $5 if they have good tires, wheels etc.
No doubt some of those bikes have been sitting around outside in the rain for some time. Scrap Metal?

I know this isn't bike related, but it made me laugh.
Asus Google Nexus 7 32gb WiFi/GSM *New Condition*
Selling an almost new Asus Nexus 7 32gb (2012) tablet that is in emasculate condition.
There is not a mark or scratch on it anywhere, great battery life and runs like new.
