I'm not quite sure of the year on this one, but I can't find anything on the internet indicating they were ever sold for more than $500. I think the seller may be a bit optimistic.

I wouldn't actually ride it, but as bikes in this style go this one's pretty cool-looking.

ha, read the machete reviews on amazon, very funny! Also, my favorite question to the manufacturer - Does it really only weigh 30 lbs?

I am in Orange County and I have seen this same ad for months. You can examine all the government statistics on the economy, but when
a resident of one of the richest cities in the country, (Irvine, Ca.) is this desperate for $4, this should be cause for concern. I swear when
I saw this ad yesterday for the 25th time, I had to pray for the strength not to send this guy a scathing email.

Schwinn Varsity, priced like a Schwinn Paramount, here in San Diego

Vintage Schwann 10 speed bike

Or maybe just a typo, with an extra zero inadvertently added to the asking price. I suspect this may be there a while.

He said: This epic Schwinn Varsity 10 speed is for the hipster who is looking to cruise to the coffee shop in high class. Baby blue to match those eyes, with a black leather seat as fine as your waxed 'stache and stylish lady-like manboots. The ladies will be asking for your number before you have time to ride into the SoCal sunset. Giddy'up!!

I said: The Ladies will HAVE YOUR NUMBER! And the fork's bent

No doubt it needs a full strip-down tune-up, but how bad could it really be?

The seller has left himself wide open for a lowball offer. The frame is a bit battered and is worth about $100. Old aluminum frames just don't go for that much.

Hit him with an offer of $150. He has said that it is only worth the $100 frame.

Somewhat cranky seller with a brutal repaint of a De Rosa. Price I suppose is OK if you don't mind cleaning up the paint job.

My first 'real' bike was a similar Trek 1000 that I bought in much better condition, and including a spare wheelset, for $450 (the CL ask price, if I had known better back then I probably could have bargained it down some).

I can’t figure this out… it has been posted almost daily for weeks:

Vintage Campagnolo Super RECORD HIGH FLANGE front hub

https://vancouver.craigslist.ca/van/bik/5298314792.html

The picture is obviously a low flange rear hub. So zero for accuracy, although they at least they spelled Campagnolo correctly, and identified it as a hub. This actually might be worth the posted price, if the cones aren’t pitted, or the axle isn’t broken, or the freewheel treading isn’t stripped etc.
Trolling for phone numbers? A sneaky way of flushing-out local C&V buyers?

This looks an awful lot like a gas pipe Bottechia frame I bought at the BAMF auction in 2013, then later flipped after I decided it needed more parts than I could source for a reasonable price. I'd like to know which part is the kicker that makes this bike worth $1200...

Bottecchia 61cm fixie

Carefully grinding off the rear derailleur hanger so that it can't be "restored" to original, then leaving the rear cable stop in place for good measure. That has to be worth something. Oh, and flipping the handlebars to make it look more speedy.

That is a pretty wild rear wheel.

I can't seem to find a pic of my Bottechia frame, but ISTR it had stamped rear dropouts and no hanger, requiring a derailleur with a claw.

Can that be serious?

I suppose 7410 would put it in the mid 90's.

I wonder how many NOS parts just end up sitting around. Perhaps intended for an uncompleted build, spares purchased, but not needed, or unsold store stock that just became old.

A lot of older NOS bike parts still turn up, easily back into the 1950's. Heck, in the Auto world, NOS Model T parts from the 1920's are still common.

For example, these show up on E-Bay from time to time.
