Yet another...can anyone tell me anything about this Raleigh?

Looking at a bike on CL, obvious that the seller knows little about the bike, literally all the info he can give is "Raleigh 10 speed"

Anyone good with Raleigh paint jobs able to get some idea as to what this is? Sorry for the lack of info :\

Looks like a record maybe. lower end. cottered cranks, steel wheels. raleigh threaded bottom bracket. can be a pain to find bottom bracket and headset parts for. the bottom bracket can be successfully rethreaded english if you use a cartridge bearing bottom bracket afterwards.

I agree. I used to have a Raleigh Record, and this looks very similar (but different colorway). I agree with those main disadvantages as well, not worth a whole lot.

Almost all components on the early Raleigh Record were made of steel. Very little alloy. The result is the bike is quite heavy. Also it does not have quick release hubs making transport and roadside repair more of an issue. The fork is also of poor quality, and is frequently found to have bent on a used Record.

That saddle should be taken to the shooting range.

It appears to be a perfect match for the 1976 Record shown here.

Hey, that was my first 10-speed, in that color. Bottom of the line Raleigh of its time.

And for that reason somewhat collectible. The Records seem to sell for a descent amount these days. Nostalga? They did have nice paint jobs. But I;ll agree heavy all steel bike with funky threading.
