Is this bike worth it?
Hello!
I'm looking around for a bike to commute on, not too far, about 15-20 mile round trip daily. I found this bike on craigslist, and I wanted to see if any of you have any advice on whether it's worth it or not. I would just go see it for myself and decide, but its a 50 minute drive (with no traffic) from where I live, so if it's a crap bike I would rather just know from the start than find out when I get there. Let me know what you think!
Thanks!

I wouldn't go running to far for it for a couple of reasons.
1. I'm sure there are 300 Schwinn Continentals in your neck of the woods and possibly at a better price.
2. I like Schwinns and I own a Continental but it is not a bike that I would want to commute 15-20 miles on daily. The Continental has a heavy frame, with steel rims so it won't stop very well in wet conditions.
I would look for something with a cro molly frame and aluminum rims to commute on. There are a lot of nice mid range Japanese made bicycles out there, I would keep my eyes peeled for something like that.

although not the most efficient macine out there, those old schwinns are bullit proof, if not heavy. if you won't mind the extra weight, id say for reliability go for it. id maybe try to go with a lighter bike if weight is an issue, like aluminum. i ride only a 5 mile round trip everyday to work on a 1959 amf skyrider single speed cruiser, but thats just me. its a nice bike though.

with some minor upgrade an old schwinn would make a great commuter.
