Help with finding the right RD

Well just as the title states I am trying to find a RD that will work with a 14/34 pro compe freewheel and Suntour powershift levers, the bike has a Suntour Honor RD now and the only vintage RD I have is a NOS Huret 700 and I don't think that will work so what vintage RD will work with this FW and will have the same mount that the Suntour RD I have has pics below of what I have, thanks in advance.

I'd look for a Suntour long-cage model; they're often suffixed GT. There may be an earlier model, but for certain the V, Cyclone and Cyclone M-II came with long cages. Check on VeloBase and Disraeli Gears.

fwiw, I'm using a V-GT on a bike and it works flawlessly.

Ok will do thats what the bike had that the FW came off of (Suntour V-GT Luxe) and when I was on Disraeli Gears I didn't see a mount like this on the Suntour GT's just direct mount.

Separate hanger mounts are available for use with direct mount derailleurs.

To me a day is wasted if I don't learn something new and I just did,I didn't know that but looking at the mount on my Suntour Honor I wondered if I could remove the derailleur and use the mounting bracket with a direct mount RD, do you know if that would work or where I can look for that mount in your pic, thanks
Glenn

Yes, the hanger mount can be removed from the Honor RD and can be used with any other direct mount RD. For many of the older Suntour RDs with a hanger, the mounting hanger is detached by unscrewing the large nut and unscrewing the threaded hanger.

Ok I have a older beat up suntour that I can remove the mount from but I don't have any vintage DM RD's(for a 5 speed) anyway do you know if this RD would work or is the cage to short or can I use a RD for a 7 speed with the friction shifters and adjust the limit screws

You can definitely use the a 7 speed RD with a 5 speed freewheel; its sometimes the reverse that doesn't work due to insufficient travel. As was stated before, you need a long cage RD (like the one you linked to) for the Pro Compe freewheel you have shown in your earlier post since it has a 34T low cog.

Thanks leecycle, I just went thru all my RD that I have (and I have a ton) and couldn't come up with anything that will work, most of what I had was rapid rise 8 and 9 speed or new mega range units, and I want something that looks a little more vintage like it belongs there and then I went out and started checking the bike pile and found something that looks the part, long cage all chrome and axle mount and it is on a old Ross 5speed beach cruiser and I think it is a Shimano but won't know until I dig it out and there are at least 15 bikes in the way(of coarse) but I will check back and let you know thanks for all of your help.

Well I came up with what I think is a nice RD a Suntour BL (matches the color of my frame perfect) and I even have the FD to match,it has a GT long cage(I have 2 one short and one long cage) anybody use these deraillieurs before any feedback, Where do they stand in the Suntour line. I would like to find another FD to go with the short cage BL RD so I can put it on my wifes bike that matches mine,I am going to redo her bike when mine is finished. I searched Disraeligears site but didn't get to much from it and they don't have a Long cage listed and the one I have has GT listed on the cage(unless someone installed it) I think the cage to be original to the deraillieur as the set came off a 80's Niskki (sp?) road bike that seemed to be original.

The Suntour BL series is a huge step up from the Honor you had on the bike. You will be pleased with that upgrade. I think the BL series is comparable to the Cyclone, which is pretty far up the Suntour foodchain. And they are good looking to boot.

Do a search on suntour, someone has a nice write-up with where all the models rank. Be sure to search by relevance.

As far as finding more BL stuff, ebay is your friend.

I think that the Suntour BL (Blue Line) was above the AR and bellow the Cyclone. They are essentially a re-working of the Vx derailleurs. Both derailleurs shift well and the rd is all alloy.

LOL Ebay is where I got these,I can only find a BL FD in black and I need to find it in blue, but I am in no hurry to find it as I have a NOS SL Suntour if I need to get my wifes bike together.I am glad this is a better deraillieur then the Honor,it is a lot lighter thats for sure and that is what I am looking for the weight loss and the performance will be a plus.

I have been very satisfied with every aluminum-bodied SunTour rear derailleur I have ever owned.
