The custom color is bad enough, but if you're going to line the headlugs and fork crown on a Paramount, you're obligated to do the same for the BB and seat lug, even if they aren't chromed.

Thanks! Keep 'em coming.

Can't believe Keith Anderson got that bike finished. Those were bare lugs sitting on a bench not two weeks ago!

Thanks for the pics. I really wanted to go for my first time this year, just couldn't. Maybe next year.

That's Peter Weigle's, rescued from near death. I don't think Peter is "obligated" to do anything he doesn't feel like doing. In fact, the whole point of the talk that revolved around the bike was about the fact that sometimes, the "correctness" police don't have to have the final say.

I don't contest that, despite my criticism. Still looks as if the front end doesn't match the middle - but that, of course, is just my opinion.

Oh, and bravo to those cantilever brake posts; for some reason, I completely overlooked them at first. A pretty nice build with quite a traditional character to it with exception to that color.

Peter similarly rescued a oddball Motobecane last year. The Paramount was all but trashed - Peter didn't at first think he'd even be able to save it. Not worth a full period restoration, so Peter decided to use it to do something Schwinn might have done back in the day in the way of a "cyclotourist" bike but didn't. Peter's sensibilities tend towards the French (as is pretty evident) - that green may be more of a constructeur shade.

Good point - I saw the French character in the brakeset, though I was not entirely convinced that was the idea behind the build as it still runs NR. A SLJ/Stronglight 93 set on this build would have made it obvious though.

Kurt,

The color on this picture is not true to what the eyes see. Peter Weigle did a really awesome job of making this one over. I'm with you on the lug lining aesthetic.

Not too many of us BF folks there this year. Attendance was notably down as a number of folks missed it for an assortment of reasons. Still was a great time.

Got to meet up with iab, who looks nothing like his avatar (like I do ), and we split the expense of the room. Very stand-up and enthusiastic guy. I'm hoping he made it home safely after his 13 hour drive, and made it to work early this morning.

I have a couple stories (maybe three or four) about the weekend, but alas, I have much to do at work today also.

Good points. I think the idea was to use what was ready to hand and make something out of as close to nothing as possible. So Peter kept what he could, for the most part, and added stuff that would move the bike in the direction he wanted it to go. It was by no means a cohesive restoration - that was the point.

On the topic of Paramounts, I sold one at the charity auction on Friday night that won its category at the show on Sunday. I think the new owner was pretty happy - it wouldn't even have occurred to me to enter it.

great show this year, it sure beat the heat of last year in the barn eh?

So..... I rode up on one Chas Roberts and rode home with two of them (well, one and a lugged 70's frame, with a shiny new paintjob...). I need to start thinking about a build. Any ideas? I want to build a longer distance machine, for centuries, doubles and the like, most likely a mix of old and new parts. Most likely a wide range double. I have a SON 20R front hub so far... want to help me brainstorm the rest?

I hitched up the trailer and rode out on Sunday for the show/swap meet with my son. It was an excellent day for riding - the out and back was about 95 miles total.

A previous poster noted sparse attendance; this was my first time, so I can't compare, but I was expecting a bit more based upon reports of previous events.

Nonetheless, there were plenty of bikes to ogle. So I ogled away. Bought a set of Suntour Cyclone track pedals. People who are much better photographers than me have been and will continue to post pics online.
