where are the cheap braze on downtube shifters?

am looking for a pair of square boss friction downtube shifters and can't believe how hard it is to find them and can't believe the prices when I do!!! Best deal so far is from loose screws for $26 (plus shipping brings them up to $34) and that's just painful. I've picked up a couple of bikes for less than $34 but they've got clamp on shifters and I've got a nice road bike with square bosses that I'd like to put the shifters on. any ideas? thanks!

I'm not looking for anything fancy here, I've got an 8 speed cassette in the back, just looking for some friction levers. If you've got anything that would work, let me know, thanks. no special brand, just as long as I can run it in friction mode.

Why not go the full expensive route and get the Velo Orange Suntour ratchet copies. They ought to work nicely and equalize shifts better than your average washer/nut interface.

$5 or $10 was what I had in mind. the bike has an 8 spd cassette and campy Mirage components but it's not like I have to shift on a dime, I'm not a racer.

A.Winthrop gets them for under $20, I think. I just sent 3 sets to a guy simply because he asked for 'em. Of course, I needed some right after that.....There are Shimano's out there.

I dont have any in your price range but why not pay the money for good shifters? Eventualy you can work your way upto a nice indexed drivetrain. It only takes 3 parts, a cassette, shifter and rear derailleur. You already have the most expensive part, the cassette, so why not get some compatible levers?

Good shifters make a difference, they aren't just for racers.

What kind of clamp-on shifters do you currently have? Many of these can be removed from the clamp and directly mounted on the braze-on bosses.

I didn't realize that. I already traded my clamp shifters for a pair of braze-on shifters w/ another BF forum member. Trouble is, I can't seem to mount the braze-on shifters. so, not sure what to do at the moment

If the ones I sent you don't work for you, we can trade back...I'd hate it if the part you traded to me was actually the one you needed in the first place
