Mafac hood replacement? Brake clamp dia?

Do any of you have any experience swapping out old Mafac hoods with one of the currently available hoods for a Spidel brake lever? What fits and what doesn't?

Also, do any of you know if an old set of Spidel levers ought to go on a modern set of 26.0mm clamp dia bars? I am aware the stem diameter is 0.2mm different.

1. No experience
2. Seems like even on the old French 25.0mm clamp bars, the rest of the bar actually had a larger diameter than the 25.4 and 26.0 versions. (I may need to see if Sheldon addresses this). Actually, French used 23.5mm grip, others 23.8mm grip. I'm guessing you could make it work.

my tandem has mafac levers with hoods, the do look like they could be replaced by something more modern. Most of the mafac levers I'm familiar with had a rubber pad on top, no hood.
