Miche hubs in need of a new cone nut?
So I got this bike off craigslist, and it came with the axles removed from the hubs. Unfortunately they are miche hubs (i'm assuming because that's what it said on the quick releases), and one of the cones is missing from, the rear hub.
They have cartridge bearings and the cones are flat. Does anyone know if there is anywhere to get a replacement one? I have a feeling i'm out of luck. Here are some pictures: http://i41.tinypic.com/353ea0g.jpg http://i39.tinypic.com/6r4lcx.jpg |
try loosecrews.com or biketoolsetc.com. if that strikes out you might see if a friendly LBS will order something from the QBP catalog, assuming there is anything available. Since it's a cartridge bearing hub, there might be something from a Japanese hub that could be swapped-in and work...or you bite the bullet a buy a new wheel (for your $10 bike, I think there's money in the budget for that!) Interesting: a Japanese bike out of Columbus tubing sold by the big SoCal chain: is this a Schwinn under Supergo clothing?

Those are Sansin/Specialized/Suntour style sealed bearing hubs.
Check the previously mentioned links and ebay.... You could also throw an 'ISO' post into the ISO/WTB thread for a complete hub. |
Cartridge bearings are the type that don't come apart like this. I.e. these are not cartridge bearings.

Jim is absolutely right.
Tom is absolutely wrong. |
You are right. I didn't look at the original picture carefully enough. I stand corrected.

Do you see cones when you look at that picture? I see parts that look just like the parts for Suntour cartridge bearing hub I have in my hand.

A Winthrop, I have the Miche campy clones, but that's not what prof2k has. His hubs, as I have been corrected to see, are the cartridge bearing type. My hubs are, as you say, cup-and-race type hubs, styled like old Campy Record hubs.

Thaks miamijim! I'll be on the lookout for those hubs.
As for the hubs, I'm not even sure they are miche hubs. There are no markings of any kind on the hubs themselves, except for a sticker on the rear that says "sealed bearings". I was just guessing by the markings on the quick release levers. |
