Brake hood for older brakes
1 Attachment(s)
Does anyone know of a brake hood that would fit the brakes on this bike? Even if i could find something that werent compatible with safety brakes i could probably modify them. just curious if anyone knows of some. The brakes are dia comp.

Try Niagara Cycle Works. The have Cane Creek and DiaComp brand hoods that fit some of the older style DiaComp & Weinman units.

Ill do that. Thanks a bunch.

For what it's worth. I have an older Fuji without the safety levers. I just installed a N.O.S. pair of Weinmann brake hood covers that I've had since Jimmy Carter was in the White House. I did the same with my Trek, putting Weinmann covers over Dia Compe brake hoods.

Almost forgot, you can also run the handlebar tape around them. This would do away with the need for the hoods, which might give you clearance issues with the safety levers anyway.

Here are a set from Niagara, mounted on a Fuji. I removed the turkey levers, you can see I cut a small hole in the brake hood, and kept the screw that held on the turkey lever.
In my experience, these hoods go on A LOT EASIER if you remove the levers from the handlebars, and slide them on from the handlebar side up. I used to destroy about half the lever hoods I installed until I switched methods. Last time I bought them from Niagara, they cost a little over $6 a pair. Cheap. http://www.niagaracycle.com/product_...oducts_id=1573 http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3314/...9d607b99_o.jpg |
The Dia-Compe generic hoods fit most older brakes out there. They even fit a pair of my weirdo Modolo Speedy levers.

Perfect, that is exactly what i was looking for. I was thinking of removing safter levers anyway...they rarely get used. Thanks a bunch guys.

They fit Mayfac racers decently well.
I just ordered two more pair, wish the would make a Weinmann marked batch. |
