78 Fuji Help

I'm rebuilding my Fuji Gran Tourer and had a few questions, i need a new rear wheel and
found this and it doesn't have a hub size listed, the more expensive model with a different part # has a hub of 125mm,this one is not listed. 28-40 dollars isn't bad for a new rear wheel,IMO. Mine is 120mm.
the wheels are 27 x 1 1/4

https://www.bikepartsusa.com/bikepart...=wheel-27_inch

Also I just measured the quill stem and its 165mm long so I guess the 21mm is the circumfrence of the handle bar clamp? Any hints on where I can pick up another quill stem that will hold a 26mm handle bar?

the cogs were nasty this is a After & Before cleaning and the bike

This bike was left under a house on a remote island and I paid 30 bucks for it, ordered new tires and pedals sanding things down and getting ready to paint it.

and the wheel after some sanding

Bikes: Was Fuji and got my grails (Pro, Pro SR, Design Series, & Ti). Now I hunt 50's and older road bikes.

The link isn't working and I would think that you mean 25.4mm for the bar clamp that was on the bike.

Welcome to the Fuji club. Get ready to become addicted after you fix it up. I've got 4, 5 if you count my 2008, and I am always on the lookout for more.

ok, I'll say it - the fork looks bent.

I've recently stumbled into a Fuji The finest. I'm becoming a fan of these bikes. Good luck with it! That fork does look bent though.

'ok, I'll say it - the fork looks bent.'

I used to pull them back into place by flipping the bike over, lying on my back, putting my feet against the crankset and pushing with my feet and pulling the forks with my arms. (Check with your physician and chiropractor before attempting any such strenuous procedure For me, it was part art & part lack of brains, but I got it to work. Also, this looks like a candidate for an Oxylic acid bath rust removal experiment. Hey, it's a hobby!

I'm a double posting fool, anyway I tore the rest of the parts off that I could get off and kinda screwed up when I removed the fork the bearings went everywhere. so I guess I'll add that to the list of stuff to be done.

having a hard time removing the crank though, I dont have a crank puller so it mey have to wait untill I can get by the bike shop.

Now that almost everything is removed I am really tempted to have it powder coated.

What's wrong with the headset? Can you just clean it out and look for gouges? I have an old Fuji that wouldn't steer at all. I thought the headset was gone for sure. However, I discovered that the problem was just dried grease... I had to pick it out. When it was clean, it look OK, so I added some new loose bearings and grease and it seems good to go. (I haven't ridden it yet... no wheels.)

I lost 5 or 6 loose bearings so was just going to pick up another headset, found a few for around 50 dollars.

It looks to be 7/8" or standered 1" but the length has me off, Sheldon's website doesn't mention how to measure the length

here is an example it has a spacer of 40.5mm not sure what that means?

I'm confused. If you lost some bearings, buy some more. Clean the races out with degreaser and replace with new bearings. You can buy a set of caged bearing for maybe $5 or just use loose bearings. There's a good tutorial on this at https://www.sheldonbrown.com/headsets.html. BTW, yours should be a threaded headset. Every Fuji I've seen from that period had threads. Sheldon says threadless became popular after 1990.

yeah mine is threaded so just buy loose bearing and set them in, any suggestions on where to find them?

Performance bike doesn't carry them, but I'll start looking around for caged bearings.

EDIT: found some at bikepartusa. 3.00 for a bag of 144. I just have to measure the left over ones to get the right size now.

they do have a sweet deal on a threaded fork for 24 dollars to fit a 27 X 1 1/4 rim

Go to your LBS with a bearing or two. For $3.00 they will probably have enough for the entire headset. And you should get top quality bearings.... and the right size.
