Miyata Grand Touring vs 1000

I found this auction and was wondering if the seller is accurate that this pre-dates the 1000 or if it's just a marketing technique. I'm not going to buy it so this isn't an "is it worth it" thread, I'm just wondering what the Grand Touring is all about.

From my experience, this looks to be correct. The Gran Touring just predated the 1000. My sister just sold a Gran Touring that was, I think, an 81 or 82.

According to the Miyata catalogs at https://www.miyatacatalogs.com/2007/1...alog-1981.html, which go back to 1981, the 1000 and the 610 were part of the "grand touring series." I have no idea what the designation was before that point.

I saw the catalog on that sight. It definitely looks more like the 1000 than the 610 but there are differences.

I think the key is that the bike in question is the "Gran Touring," not "Grand Touring."

He's had it listed on CL for a month now @ $500. I just checked and it is still on there, too.

Just listed...

I just listed a Miyata 1000 Grand Touring for sale on Ebay and it looks much like the one pictured, color aside. Great bike, I might add. I had another one years ago that was a perfect fit and still cannot understand why I sold it. My son, incidentally, has a very nice Miyata 1000 that he is looking to trade or sell outright. If interested, let me know and I will hook you up.

I was just curious of the relationship between Gran Touring and 1000. I'm not looking to buy one. On a side note, I just subscribed to your site a couple of hours ago. Hopefully my info activates soon.

The Miyata Gran Touring is the late 1970s predecessor to the Miyata 1000. It's very similar to the very early 1980's model 1000. Miyata simply made a change from model names to model numbers, circa 1980.
