Peugeot Guessing Game!
To the winner go the spoils!
Well, ok. I have no spoils. Mayhaps the braggin rights would be enough?
I have in my possession a Peugeot. I have no idea the year, but after some research I think its a AO8. Problem is, it doesnt fit with any of the catalogues out there (I have checked a few websites). I know the bike only had one owner (my grandfather) and he is the kind of guy to just run with the stock components that came on a frame.
The bike has Weinmann centre pull brakes, and simplex front and rear derailleurs. It does sport downtube shifters, which I cannot find record of an AO8 ever having (most were supposed to have stem shifters).
So I ask you this.... Am I right? Is this an AO8? Is it possibly something else? Anyone want to even guess a year range?
Ill attach a picture, and I hope it helps.
To all that can help, understand that it is appreciated.

75 to 78, by the decals, though I would like some better pictures. Might be a bit later, it's hard to make out any details.
Cottered or cotterless crank?

Your Peugeot is definitely no earlier than late '70s. The AO8 was a stripped down UO8- no chrome on the fork, and if I remember right, cheesier pedals & handlebars. I don't think many were brought over to the US, and I don't recall seeing any made later than maybe 1972. As for what you do have, I cannot help.

Thanks, aixaix
My grandfather did remove the drop handlebars for a pair of cheap riser handlebars due to back problems. To my understanding, the AO8 does have non-chromed forks, which this bike has, but the pedals look solid... the bike is located in Canada, not the US. Is there a possibility that the AO8 had a greater following in the great white north?

Does the aluminum crankset make it an AO9? I think lugged carbolite is a late 1970s thing.
Be careful with the bottom bracket, which may be French (1970s French production), Swiss (1980s French production) or ISO (Canadian).
