Vintage 1976 'Raleigh Sports' cruiser
https://images.craigslist.org/01010_...If_600x450.jpg
I am needing to sell this beautiful Raleigh cruiser! It is a great bike for commuting and city riding, even winter biking since it is easy to control in bad weather. It is also very enjoyable for riding bike trails around town. The bike has ALL ORIGINAL PARTS and is in near perfect condition. There is a scratch in the paint on the top tube that could be easily touched up if it bothers you, just FYI. I chose not to touch it up. The tires are also original, completely functional, but very old, so you may choose to replace them at some point.

Zero rust..!
Sturmey Archer 3-Speed hub with kickback foot brakes (also has hand brakes)
Spring loaded Brooks saddle
Original fenders on front and back wheels
Made in original Raleigh factory in Nottingham, England

It is a beautiful bike! I am willing to negotiate price if you pay with cash.

Please do not respond if you aren't serious about buying the bike.

My Bike was purchased for me special by a boyfriend who is a technician at a very reputable bicycle company in Chicago. THIS BIKE IS NOT USUALLY FOUND IN THIS COUNTRY. The times I have taken it out I was approached by so many other bicyclists who drooled over it and had to know how I got a Charge Hob (which is a British bike predominately). I love how the frame is a "step through" without that curvy/beach cruiser top tube. The placement of the linear top tube allows you to wear a skirt if you need, but maintains an athletic look and feel for more serious rides.

It does have a few modifications that were done by a trained professional:

There is only a front break with the lever on the R side of the handlebar
The tires are off of a Fuji Feather CX (the white bike on our rack)
The crankset is a Sugino Messenger (single speed)
I want to say the seat post is Cinelli
The stem cap is white (unsure of brand)
The saddle is SUPER nice, but of course I forgot what it is
The grips are just some cheap white "leather" ones I got from BikeSmiths
There's a cute black and white bell and little flower pot bungee from urban outfitters
She also has her front and rear fenders (shown in the promo picture of the bike)

I'm 5'4" and it could comfortably fit someone a bit shorter or taller. I live on the eastside near UWM if you'd like to see it shoot me a text.

It's a feminine, but very athletic bike in almost mint condition. $250 OBO!

I look up pictures of these "Charge Hobs"...

Would anyone like some old Campy high flange wheels with a bike attached to them?

https://images.craigslist.org/00000_...B_1200x900.jpg

Or a not-pristine-but-looks-all-there full Shimano Sante-equipped Cannondale for only $100?? (I may check this out for the Sante groupset alone)

https://images.craigslist.org/00303_...P_1200x900.jpg

And for the tall riders like me, a gorgeous and ready-to-ride 1982 Miyata 710.

https://images.craigslist.org/00J0J_...U_1200x900.jpg

And finally, a vintage high-end Trek 760 makes its appearance here in the Seattle area. Trek had several colors that were just "meh" to me and this red was one of them. Frame is scratched up (owner says), but there is a heap of 9s Dura Ace including the downtube shifters. You get a lot of bike for the good amount of money. Adjust the stem/bars down and round out the 7700 DA groupset with those gorgeous cranks, which, for the last few months, are everywhere. I can't decide on whether to buy and store up these cranks (and 12-23 9s DA cassettes), which can be found for very reasonable prices, or to let them be. I already have three sets with two on bikes. If you know how to install those Octalink V1 BB-interfacing cranks (not hard), they will serve you well.

$800 is steep for a 1985 Trek 760, even with the DA bits. The sale price trend for these is about $400-425 on ebay. I recently sold my 1983 Trek 760 with full Superbe for $400.

The Sugino XD2 cranks are very nice, just bought some for my Bridgestone XO-2, but haven't installed them yet.

It indeed is steep. And since we live in Expensive Bike Corridor, I went back and priced all the items individually according to his description and worked that into what they could be found for sale at a place like Recycled Cycles and CL. He has a lot of new or very nearly new pieces--and many are very nice quality, so the depreciation curves haven't had a chance to take any or much effect. The DA stuff has comfortably depreciated to "decent price" levels. The wheel build, which includes a superb lifetime warranty (they do great work--I've had a set built up by them), will have been 200-250. The saddle is a lot, the crank is a good bit, the RINGS are a lot.

By my approximate LBS and fair market value research and assessment, all individual pieces minus frame/fork/headset are nearly $950. Add in a worn 760 frame/fork/headset and I'd put approximately $150 due to high end tubing/geometry+pedigree+Seattle+vintage Trek and a la carte we're in the $1100 ballpark. "Group rate" (aka assembled bike) discount and $800 doesn't look as bad, though the frame condition will make it a tougher sell to many people. If he ran a 7700 crankset instead of the Sugnino+Zephyr rings, the price could be roughly $75-100 less, which would bring more eyeballs to it. As it stands now, he'd be losing a good bit of money that he just spent on the bike--no time to amortize the cost of the parts.

I think $400 for a 760 with full Superbe would be a great deal--and an extremely beautiful one. There's a great condition 25" 1986 Peloton on ebay for $350+$75 shipping that of course has me looking at it. Another Peloton!

I was looking at that Peloton myself, not sure about that fork (Wasn't the orig. white?) and at 63cm just a bit too high for me - I usually top out at 62... Sanity temporarily took over so I've moved on - until I see the next bit of eye candy.

RiddleOfSteel 12-04-16 12:17 PM

I'm not sure about the fork either. It isn't stock, but is accurate to the era. That semi-sloping crown, lugwork, and the security nubs are dead ringers for a 1984-1985 Super Sport. And being that Schwinn chromed a few things on the SS like the fork (underneath the paint), it could very well be an SS fork. At least it would then still be in the family. This also may explain the lack of tubing decals--probably a Tange chromo piece like they were during those years. The bike is built up well, but not original in fork or components. I'm passing on this one as well.

Lascauxcaveman 12-04-16 01:51 PM

Really, really want one of those b/w Pelotons. Either a 24" or 25" would be just fine. But it's going to have to be original and nearly perfect. And relatively cheap.

Which means I'll probably never get one

I had to double check that one and you guys are correct. The Peloton should have a matching Columbus fork.

Interestingly, the '89 Circuit I am building has similar Columbus SL/SP frame tubing but came from the factory with a plain chrome Tange fork that year. Go figure.

Wow. Been looking for a Voyageur frame in that size to be redone in 700/650B configuration with reset canti mounts.

Anybody in Minneapoilis willing to give me a hand on this one?

Frames are fairly easy to send, I'd directly write the seller if you are interested. If he can't help, I will see what I can do. I note, the seller does not say what part of town he is in but I would aid this if it was necessary.

Also, bike shops in the Twin Cities are Eric's, Penn Cycle, around forever, a number of bike shops might help.
