Well this is an interesting read

Punch out from the Masi BB shell being sold by what sounds like a kind of cranky guy.

Genuine, Authentic & Real! NO Vintage MASI Bicycle complete without it! LAST ONE | eBay

So basically, according to his story, they're stolen. Nice.

You'd think if he was involved with the Masi Carlsbad operation he'd at least know the correct spelling of Confente!

Cool item, tho.

Ehhhh...sounds like he took trash as a souvenir and is trying to cash in now...I'm cool with that.

Have to wonder about insulting your intended audience though...and the Mario Confenti thing does make it sound fishy.

Our church operates a non-profit bike co-op. Started as a low income/homeless ministry to renovate donated bikes into good basic transportation since our public transit is so deficient. It quickly grew into a full service bike shop selling new entry level bikes + renovated donations. Used bikes generally are in $80-$375 range, depending on quality and overall condition.

I was in there yesterday saw 2 new arrivals much nicer than the norm for donations. Being offered as donated, not renovated as yet. The Masi Record is priced at $1,000, Don't remember exact price of the RIH, but was under $600. The RIH is a 56 cm frame, Masi appears to be bigger, maybe 58 cm by my eye. Masi has Campy Racing Triple, Veloce 9spd derailleur, Monoplanar brakes with early Ergo brifters. RiH had Shimano 600 tricolor DR's & hubs with Shimano 600 Arabesque crank. Pricing may be a bit ambitious, but it is for a good cause & likely negotiable.
It is called "The NW HUB", located at corner of Broadway and Market in Salem, OR and they are on facebook. Don

Pity the pictures of the RIH are so small. Hard to identify or even confirm it's a RIH. The shape of the fork does look very familiar, though. Worth checking out if it's your size. If it has a serial number stamped on the lower headlug, it may well be a RIH from the Amsterdam shop and in that case the $600 is well-spent on a hand-built bespoke racing machine, IMO. I'd really like to see more of it. :)

I have never seen one of these, but looks nice once you get past the yellow highlights.. i think this is one of those times when you do not match colors with the decals. does not go well with the burnt umber. Same color family darlings! same color family! ahhhhhhhhhh!

It always surprises me how tight the geometry on seemingly mid-level Univegas are, nevertheless, channeling some '86 Schwinn Tempo for a cool $150. Worth the look to me, if I was in the market.

Crackle pink paint job on this presumably mid to late '80s (Team?) Fuji. Lovely thing and still rescue-able for proper geared life-after-fixie. Bar end shifter brake levers is a new one for me. Another $150 wonder, but for the frameset (in good shape), it's hard to lose. Heck, even with that paint job it's hard to lose!

I am pretty sure I've met this guy before, picking up several used frames for a decent deal (that I was thankfully able to sell for the purchase price), which included a 1985 Peugeot PH10LE framset with the paper label still on it and in good shape. Old school Bridgestone with wingnut axle nuts and front dynamo. $149 for the privilege.

Oh, rats. Forgot. How could anyone not want a complete Shimano Sante groupset with a Cannondale and Wolber wheels attached??? Condition is quite good from the looks of it. Brake levers need new hoods. Bike frameset plus the groupset is a really good deal at just $240 (to me). Bike is a bit small, but the components should be fine.... Get on it!

PS: Not a 62cm, but more than likely a 60cm

Good grief, takes a pic to sell a nice bike and can't bother putting the chain back on the ring.

Barry's a pretty savvy guy so it was probably just an oversight or a brain fart picking the photo for the ad.

Went back this afternoon with my camera for better pics of the RIH and found that it was sold. The RIH frame components & paint were in better condition and it did not look to have been ridden as much as the Masi. Very few chips & scratches compared to Masi. Masi has Athena brakes, Mirage brifters (RH Brifter lever has some road rash), Veloce rear DR.

I took some more pics of the Masi. While I was doing that, the manager came out & lowered the price. I asked if he knew the size & he said: "Looks like 58 or 59 cm" Don (edit) I asked if the serial# was on the lower head lug of the RIH & he said it was.

jetboy 01-21-17 11:46 PM

sheesh. I sure wish that manager worked at one of our local co-ops- lowering the price! unheard of. they have this Look frame that I want but its severely overpriced with no fork at $500. and its been that way for 3 years.

Not surprised the RIH is gone. the masi looks pretty attractive at its new price.

Well, I guess posting it in this thread is kinda risky. :( Let's hope the new owner shows up here.

ollo_ollo 01-22-17 09:30 AM

Yes, I was surprised at how fast it sold too, but a 56cm matches up with quite a large segment of adult males. The shop is not as busy this time of year and it was encouraging for them to move one of the higher priced bikes. During warmer drier months, the place is always busy with lots of customers. Really amazing to me how quickly it has grown from a small beginning. I like to browse their parts bins, found a couple nice sets of Sun Tour shifter levers for $1 each today.

They have a lot of used bikes on the floor right now. I've been watching for a small framed bike for one of my grand-daughters who is a college freshman. Needs to be nice, but not so nice it is stolen immediately. They had a tiny Schwinn Caliente step thru with 24" wheels and 3 mixtes priced $80(univega), $160(Motobecane)& $200(UO-8). Also a $300+(Terry). I need to bring my GD in to shop next time she is back in Salem. Don

Look at the routing of the rear derailleur cable (and the front)! Under the BB to the rear dropout on a frame like this. Elevated chainstays prevented the dreaded chain suck. nice investigating powers. looks like someone ignored the proper cable routing.. but it is pretty neat. looks way to small for me, but with that frame.. hard to tell the sizing..

definitely something different.
