not sure either ^ would like to see a close-up of the stay-caps. For that matter would love to see the crankset installed correctly!
It might be legit, fork panto certainly looks it. Also could be a "budget" model with very little chrome...the internal cable "slots" don't look familiar.
Edit: also seems like some rattlecan white paint may have been applied (on chainstays if not elsewhere).
$100 for a true Casati would be a steal.

I simply don't know enough to say it's real and the internal cabling looks unsightly. Anyone know if the BB of a Casati has the same cut outs as shown in picture 2? If it's real is a nice price...

I just read a long post from @T-Mar, who made a pretty good argument the 555 was Reynolds 501.
There are several arguments against the idea that the Raleigh-labeled tubing was relabeled Reynolds, the main one being that paying Reynolds to ship their expensive tubing from England to Taiwan, only to disguise it with a lookalike decal that says "Raleigh," thus diminishing the appeal of the bike, makes no sense.
The clincher, for me, is that, at the same time that most of the Raleigh USA models were labeled "Raleigh 555" and the like, the Raleigh USA Grand Prix had a genuine Reynolds 531 label. There would have been no point to correctly labeling one bike built with Reynolds tubing while simultaneously using Reynolds tubing in other frames but sticking the "Raleigh" label on those.
I was working in a shop that sold Raleigh bikes during that period. I wish it had occurred to me to ask the sales rep the retrospectively obvious question concerning the source of the tubing. New England reticence on my part, I guess.

The drive-side crank arm is installed in the non-drive side. Look at the derailleur hanger.

That would have been an older post. Last time I looked, he had come around to the idea that the tubing labeled "Raleigh 555" (and the other variants) was supplied by Tange or Ishiwata or another Asian manufacturer.

Cannot recall the number, nor any more details, and cannot vouch for any of it being true, but could have been called Reynolds 525 (or pick your numbers: 5XX).
Besides this Mercier i don't think I've seen "Taiwan Reynolds tubing" anywhere else.

Just to throw a little (trivia) mud in the waters: I had a tig-welded Mercier "Euro-something" frame, circa maybe '90s, that had been told was made (in Taiwan)with a tubing that was "licensed by Reynolds" for Taiwan manufacture.
Cannot recall the number, nor any more details, and cannot vouch for any of it being true, but could have been called Reynolds 525 (or pick your numbers: 5XX).

1992 Peugeot CF 708P C - Reynolds 708 frameset - size 59 - mint condition, I have the same frame but in black and violet colors with a carbon fork and in my size equiped with shimano, it is a very remarkable frame which is comfy,rigid and quite snappy.708 classic isn't well known but it is a very good tubing with lots of qualities

Your basic $79 Trek 420 - Not a 51cm bike and, judging from that seat post bolt and general condition, I'd bring a set of Allen keys and make sure post and stem move before I bought it.

This is a pretty well sought-after Trek model from 1990. It has some collectable value in addition to being a really solid indestructible frame that is fairly light, strong, and holds its value.
I have screenshotted a current ebay listing for this same bike for $600 (see last pic).
Just last summer this bike was in rideable shape and was a very fast bike. New brakes/cables/housing in summer 2022.
However now the front tube is deflated, and the spokes on the front wheel need adjusting because it is rubbing on the brakes. These are the only issues, besides cosmetics, and the bike is pretty dirty.
Frame size is approximate but very close, I am 5' 7" and the bike is perfect for me.
The frame alone is going for more than what I have this posted for. If you are a bike person you could get this thing zipping in an hour.
If you aren't savvy, it would cost very little (maybe about $50-$100) at a bike shop to get it in good shape that would make it comparable to a $500-$600 bike today.
