Do you think they'll get their asking price?

https://stlouis.craigslist.org/bik/3581123452.html

I'm offering my beloved 1974 Schwinn Suburban for sale. A wonderfully original steed with carefully curated enhancements. If you just want a crappy old 10 speed, you're looking in the wrong place. If you're looking for a bike with true vintage character and exceptional additions, read on.

Do you like original? It's a completely original Schwinn made in Chicago in 1974 and in terrific shape, but I've changed the things that had to be updated (tires, tubes, brakepad and saddle(and if you want the original mattress saddle you can have it too). Like style? The new Brooks Flyer sprung saddle with new matching Brooks Challenge seatbag, along with the metallic chestnut paint with cream pinstripes, provide plenty. Like charm? The gleaming brass Crane bell has it with every ring; the vintage look gets looks aplenty. Like durability? The virtually new Schwalbe Marathon tires are virtually bullet-proof; the fenders and frame will last literally forever. Like good working order? Bike was recently tuned by the experts at Big Shark bike shop. Like comfort? The cushy tires, sprung leather saddle and upright position provide a really comfy ride. Like individuality? You won't be parking next to any other bikes like this, anywhere. Like irony? The Suburban is a truly great urban bike that excels at commuting, coffee and pub runs and cruising Forest Park (my primary uses for it). Want this gem? Call 314-302-0800. $400. Go price the above components (Brooks, Crane, Schwalbe), come see its condition and you'll agree it's a deal. Cheap no, a deal you'll enjoy for years, yes.

However the price on all the parts is close to asking price... but I know from my own experience no one cares what the parts cost.

As a touring or racing bike? No.

As a recreational or commuter bike? It's OK.

In my area, that's a $100 bike.

Ok thanks. I'm still trying to learn what are good models are what aren't. Is it safe to say that turkey levers and stem shifters == commuter/beater?

I owned this bike for a spell, it's pretty rad:

https://www.usedvictoria.com/classifi...speed_19011581

$300 · Vintage 56 cm Proctor Townsend single speed.

Beautiful Proctor Townsend single speed road bike, all set up and ready to ride. Vintage frame made in Edmonton in the 80's. Clipless pedals, new reversible single speed hub, Italian leather seat, good Shimano brakes, brand new chain wheel, nice aluminum wheels, and fancy red tires. The frame has beautiful ports and detailed caps, and still has all the original decals.
The frame and most parts are in excellent condition, but it might need a new chain.
I'll even throw in a nice Kryptonite courier lock.
Would be willing to meet in Victoria to show this sexy roadbike.

More often than not, yes. However, there are the some rare nice bikes, like a Schwinn Paramount, that had them as options.

What type of riding are you planning on doing?

Thanks George!

I think yes they are looking for simple cash and carry.

I have been trying ti get in touch with this seller since I saw this posting, but he will not get back tome!

I have had lots of CLers that never replied to an email or two, I am suprised he does not have a number to text.

It is a real act of trust. In general I have had good luck with CL but did get burned for a saddle once. But after buying several bikes and other parts from CL in general I have had good luck. A local C&Ver might facilitate for you.

Thanks George!
The ad is still up keep trying.
