I have updated this beautiful condition Gitane Criterium with an Ultegra 6500 group that included drivetrain, brakes and shifters. The frame is a 52cm Super Vitus 983 tube set with Super Vitus 980 fork. A sublime handling frame that is light and responsive. With these upgrades and service the bike rides better than when new, having the advantage of the 9 speed Ultegra. It has new cables throughout, new bar tape and new Mavic chain. Everything else not replaced has been inspected, adjusted and lubed. Makes a great road bike for anyone liking the vintage look but also the convenience and ease of modern shifting and components. Light enough to hang with the pack but different enough to stand out and not blend in. I really don't want to sell this one but trying to thin the herd for a move and eventual bike upgrade.

Track frames look bigger than they are also because they use short cranks sometimes.

There are two Cannondale Black Lightnings currently on eBay. This one seems a particularly good buy as it has the Suntour Superbe Pro black and gold drivetrain on it. It is also, I think, reasonably priced for what you are getting. I once said I wanted one of these, but even though this is my size, I cannot bring myself to pull the trigger. Too many bike as it is.

Here's a TSX Bianchi with Shimano 600 for a very nice price of $400 in Sacramento. Seller mentions damage to the chainstay, probably just chain suck but look it over carefully regardless.
