Even if you don't like carbon fiber this will yeild early CF bikes that had high level components. That Epic should have 105 or 600 components, and you can sell the frame to someone who does like it, or flip the whole thing

Are you guys aware of customs duties on used bikes purchased from Europe? I purchased a Colnago from Italy (Ebay) and received a bill from UPS for $176 of customs duties. The link below is the bike.

Yes- once, when the seller used FedEx to ship. Thankfully it was an inexpensive item, so the duties only ended up being a small amount.

When they used regular mail (e.g., Poste italiane), I wasn't subject to such duties.

Depends on how badly you want the item and how unobtanium it is Stateside, I guess.

Masters are not hard to find in the US, finding a good deal on one is another story. These three are reasonably priced, I'd say the one in Tucson is the best deal

Dura Ace 7400 group with exception of rear hub which is 600/Ultegra. Clinchers not original tubulars tires. Upgraded to 7400 STI shifters/brake levers but still shifting 7x2.172.5mm crank arms. My bike was sent by the seller via Italian Post. Somehow, it got in the hands of UPS along the way. I really don't understand how that works. I received the bill after I received the bike. Why would UPS advance the money for Customs duties? Do they have a contract with Customs?

23 inch Motobecane with rare French parts. The bike was obviously sprayed with oil, and needs to be taken apart and restored, but there is very little rust. The parts are great, the crankset with Stronglight logo rare. A great candidate for restoration or parts for another French bike.

Oops, didn't mean to rub salt in the wound, I misread your post, I thought you were posting the auction as an ebay find.

UPS is the worst for shipping internationally, I've bought many bikes and frames from Europe and will only use the post office for shipping, even if it means splitting the bike into many packages.

UPS charges a brokerage fee for international packages, I guess they have a deal going with the Italian post. I have had bikes from the Belgian post get delivered to me by DHL but they don't charge much of a brokerage fee.

OK, not classic, not vintage, but someone in Chicago should snap this up (and probably replace the handlebar): 56 cm 2002 Van Dessel Super Fly. (Also, I think it's a 2001 -- the 2002 had a suspension fork.)

I think that's a replacement fork that's too short. Those angles look really steep and that BB looks really low.

Huh. You got me wondering. Maybe it's a 2002 w/the headshock suspension removed from the fork and the resulting space moved atop the head tube for spacers to take up the slack? Because look at the spacers on that goofy, high-a$$ steerer tube. Is it even possible to do that w/a headhshock -- remove it and still have a functional fork?

Regardless, it's a great frame w/decent components and still probably worth the initial bid price.
