Nice catch.

Speaking of $50 touring bikes, I emailed this person when the ad was 24 hours old not expecting a reply, but hoping for one since this ad was listed in the bike parts section of CL by mistake. Haven't been contacted, but oddly, the ad is still up (by mistake?). Maybe someone here with more persistence can score it. I wonder what it is.

Classic adult gold bicycle. Works well, with no structural damage or repairs needed. $50.00 OBO, cash only, pick up only.

I think the price is a bit high, but maybe someone who is looking for a top-of-the-line Nishiki could talk him down a bit.

Mine cost between $139 and $149 in the late 1970s. It was Italian-made steel of unknown origin, it certainly could have been Columbus, but there were no decals, but it was pretty light for the time - my small frame was maybe 23.5-24 lbs and it was stiff enough for me as a small 140 lb. rider. In fact the reason I bought my Rolls is that they made a decent 700c bike with 20 " frames, and the Raleigh and Schwinns were not available in that a small size.

Mine did not have the clover-leaf lug work and BB cutout, braze-on shifter bosses, or forged Campy dropouts. That frame looks to be a higher end model than mine. I sold mine when I outgrew it soon after my cross-country trip, and bought the slightly larger Trek 510 that I still own today.
That's why I love this place. Someone, somewhere is going to know something about a bike that's a total mystery to me. Thanks for removing the temptation.

Vitus 979 57cm Vintage Racing Bike

The internal, top tube cable routing gives it away as a Vitus model 979 = all auminum.
It looks like the black anodizing might have been removed from all the rear stays, so it kinda mimics what a Vitus Carbone 3 looks like. Only the right rear chainstay is clear anodized on the 979s, if the main tubes have color anodizing.....

Looks like a nice 80's Schwinn Voyageur SP for $200. Albeit with the funky Superbe rear der. Likely won't last long at that price though.

Funky Superbe Tech rear derailleur? Don't believe everything you read on the Disraeli Gears. I have that derailleur on my 84 Trek 660 with the short cage, I got it because I was racing in mountains and needed a fast positive derailleur so the LBS sold me that one and it never disappointed me...not even after 160,000 miles! It shifted fast even when climbing steep grades without taking pressure off the pedals to do the shift! it would would just bang into gear, even after all that abuse it never broke. I read all the supposedly issues with that derailleur, in fact even bought a unused spare one because I too feared I may suffer those problems, the unused one is still unused.

I also have a 85 Schwinn Le Tour Luxe with a Suntour Mountech rear derailleur, which if you've been reading Disraeli Gears they say the same crap about it as they do about the Superbe Tech. My Mountech has far less miles than the Superbe Tech but still after 5,000 miles it's still works fine and handles the wide range of touring gears fast.

The above mentioned bike looks just like the 83 Schwinn Voyager including the color (champagne according to the way the photo looks) which was only offered in 83 which I also have except mine came with Shimano Deore derailleur which was how the bike came from the factory, so I can only assume there was an issue with the Shimano Deore and they replaced it with actually a better derailleur in my opinion.

Hah- I finally put two and two together. This Voyageur is the mystery touring bike from this CL ad. Matching racks, head tube color, ect. Different price!

Road Bike - Shimano 600 - 55cm/22in Lugged Frame
No clue what this is....I've been researching and while I thought it might be either a Nishiki Professional or a Centurion Semi-Pro, nothing really seems to line up perfectly. Tange 2? Vertical rear dropout? Wraparound seat stay? Mystery to me...
----- ----- ----- ----- -----

Road Bike - Classic - Higher End 55cm/22in Lugged Frame

Very nice classic vintage road bike.

I have been unable to identify this bike but it is definitely a very nice ride.

Specs:

Lightweight Frameset with windowed lugs, wrap around seat stays. Champion tubing and Chromed rear stays and Shimano dropouts (rear half of bike) Size 55cm - This is a rare size for a vintage road bike. Another clue that the bike is higher end. Only decal says "Professional" on top tube
Suntour Superbe Brakes
Shimano 600 Derailleurs and Indexed Shifters
Shimano 600 Headset
Super nice Avocet Crank with Drilled Spider. I've only found this crankset online as a triple. This double is rare.
Sugino Bottom Bracket
Sugino Seatpost

Currently the bike is shown with 27in wheels. If you want the bike without the cheap wheelset to add your own deduct $25

$225 Do Not Contact Me with lowball offers. I'm not interested. This is a super nice bike. If I knew what the bike was I'm sure it is worth more.

I will delete the ad when bike is sold. Do not only ask if the bike is still available. I will assume spam.

For San Francisco Bay Area shoppers:

Vintage Shogun w/ rare shimano 600 Arabesque

I don't love the graphics, but they are original and in good shape, it's Japan-made 600 model with Tange DB CrMo, and the Shimano 600EX Arabesque drivetrain alone would seem to make it and a decent value at $190 if not a steal. Certainly a better deal at first glance than a similar specimen for sale near Washington DC. That seller does helpfully provide serial number that suggests both date from 1986. So maybe not vintage enough for some, but maybe rideable today or standards compliant enough for others.
