Not in '81, unless the customer explicitly ordered it that way. Instead, there should be a small tab brazed under the downtube to prevent clamp-on shifters from sliding.

My 1982 614 has a heart shaped raised area under the downtube so the clamp doesn't slide.

A short ferry ride from Seattle! Beautiful looking frame with great chrome detailing on the stays and lugs. Too small for me. :/

For $100 with Campagnolo forged dropouts with a derailleur hangar (and headset), I'd take the plunge (slight paint blemishes be darned!).

There isn't a lick of Campy on that: universal brakes, stamped Japanese crankset, Dia Compe levers, dirt drop stem, Suntour RD and FD, etc.

Full bike here if one really wanted this, $299.

531 Raleigh Grand Sport. 56cm classic vintage road bike

I'm sure it is nice. I still use a suede seat on one bike though it has a cover because after much use, it finally tore. Very comfortable.

Same seller in Milwaukee, he/she certainly gets a lot of good bikes is selling white Mixtes of both the Raleigh Gran Prix (49cm, small) and Motobecane Mirage (53cm) which is kind of cool.
Raleigh Grand Prix Mixte Road Bike (49cm)
Motobecane Mirage Mixte Road Bike (53cm)

The side-by-side comparison is a bit fascinating. The heyday of the Euro-bike-makers during the bike boom. In this case, the Motobecane is probably a little newer, the Raleigh has downtube shifters.

Pretty neat 1972 Nishiki Safari with dual headlights integrated into front rack. $130
Apparently these came with saddle and front panniers. Bars aren't original obviously. Carefully check that front fork . . .

Nishiki safari

I saw someone selling some sort of Nishiki model with a similar front rack and headlights, they were selling it for quite a bit more. But those racks are great, rear too in that ad. I think what I saw was a Safari too.

What I saw was actually over $300.

Racks, Lamps, Dynamo, Fenders are all worth the price I would think.

That bike could be spruced up a bit actually instead of those bare handlebars being left loose.

Quite a good deal! Who said SF didn't have good deals, I see quite a few nice ones.

Sorry to do a three-fer on the Nishiki Safari but here is a '72 article from bicycling magazine from the bike.

I'll just leave the link because of "permission" status:

<-- Bicycling Magazine 05-1972 --> Nishiki Safari

You don't forget those headlights, it's very unique.

Is this a real Reparto Corse? If it is, isn't it a screaming deal? The ad is old, so it could be gone now.
