MIYATA PRO BIKE | road | City of Toronto | Kijiji

Miyata Pro, 24 inch frame, just a shade large for me. Looks like it would need a cleaning but the price is $250, which is a bargain in Toronto. He did say someone is coming to see it tonight but...

BTW with the Canadian dollar worth $0.69 US, it might be a good time to look at Canadian listings.

The paint is beat to hell. It's low end, and not worth the coin, imo.

73' Schwinn Paramount Frame 25" 62 cm

I think this is a 1973 as the serial # reads C73101. Frame measures 25" or 62 cm. Has a bit of surface rust here and there but nothing serious. Seems to be clean inside the frame. Campy dropouts with Nervex lugs. These frames are sweet!
They certainly took fine photos of this bike frame.

42lbs!!! It's a deal per pound, but any mid 80s Japanese tourer is going to be a better overall value.

It appears to be a landmark bike. Go get a Japanese tourer mid-80s bike if one wants one.

It's totally cool. It's heavy true, but it is 42lbs with front rack, rear rack, decaleur, two headlights, a taillight, a generator, two rear panniers, and a front pannier! It's straight gauge cromo quality Nishiki with cool Sugino and dia-compe equipment. My Schwinn Voyageur is 30lbs but with just the rear rack (catalog say 4lbs).

Oh! Good gracious me there are some things looking to be Au-soldered on an original. So a steel friend which thrashes the cardiovascular faster than things painted with lace costs tha same as the tubes it were made of. And the forks and stays aren't butted!

I went and looked at one of these in Portland about 3 years ago. After seeing it in person I was backing away quickly. It is not an impressive frame in terms of build quality or features and as Timmy mentions, incredibly heavy. As heavy, if not heavier than a Schwinn cruiser. To me, it looked more like a first generation touring novelty. Plus, the bags and other accouterments that adorned the version I saw (similar to the bike above) were not of any heavier duty quality. Well, they were heavy but not heavy duty.

The seller's bike I was looking at started it at something like $500, it didn't sell it locally, so he put it on eBay then back on CL and I think ended up around $250-300 for the sale. I would certainly not do anything sight unseen (ie: eBay) unless you have already viewed one of these in person.

Thanks @The Thin Man
I've owned 4 1980s touring bikes (full tourers, not sport tourers). The later the model, the better the braze-ons and overall construction. Saying that you want to own something because it's a landmark or the first of its kind just means your addicted to hoarding (and don't ride your bikes).

Okay, so if one has actually ridden the Safari to compare it to the mid-80s bikes, that makes sense.

This is a lovely 1991 Miyata Team Titanium 54cm race bike. Drive train is a mix of Suntour Suberbe Pro derailleurs and Campy cranks. The wheels are built around American Classic hubs. This is an early titanium bicycle with titanium tubes and aluminum lugs. This bike should be in the home of a collector.

Spoke with the seller about it, as I was buying other stuff from him today. Asked if he regularly got bikes from Braun's and more details to which he said, "No this is the only bike we have left from our [collection]. This one was my brothers and was personally designed by Gil Bertrand himself, who was a friend of ours. This is the last one of it's kind. An incredible bike. The brakes alone, are worth 1/2 of the price of the bike. It was a hard decision.... "

CAD->USD makes it a really tempting buy, but don't have the cash on hand for it. Seems like a grail bike for someone.
