Tricky Trek History Questions.....

heres what i have,a 1985 TREK 2000 owned by Laura Peycke,a Texas racer, and i have heard a U.S. OYLMPIC hopeful in the 80's,now i'am not sure if this bike had any involvement in the 1985-86 Olympic womens roadrace or if it was her local (Texas)..race bike, the story on my bike is it was 1 of 22 made (hard to believe),for the womens team that year?..i 'am not saying it is either, now the story gets really crazy,,,i went to Vintage Trek.com.and low and behold there is a track bike with a Laura Payke and a U.S.Olympic hopeful,,,note: the spelling of the names!..but look how the letters are painted!(outlined)do they not look alike?.so i need alot of history lessons or some good Detectives out there! ,,,i have tried to get in contact with Laura to no avail yet!..Dang is this not a fun hunt?..thanks for your input(good or bad) and help..

They don't look like the same model of bike at all past the color. Could it be that the color was limited? Or maybe Peycke copied the Payke bike name?

Are you sure that's a model 2000? It looks to me like it's built with Reynolds 753, which would make it a 170 track bike(?) I think Trek did make bikes for the US women's team (though note that there was no Summer Olympics in 1985 or '86). In any case, John Thompson, who used to build for Trek, including some of the Team and other 753 frames, is a frequent poster here and can probably tell you something about your bike.

thanks guys ,looking at my serial # on my bike(the first pic),i narrowed it down to a 1985 2000 from VINTAGETREKS.COM,it is a Aluminum 725 or752 ?(pic below)
butted frame,,but i also have to agree with JOHNNY ALIEN, ,i have googled the name payke to no avail,,but the name PEYCKE pops up as a racer all over the net..including this (1989) site..http://www.procyclingwomen.com/Races/Road.html was this the bike she was riding?which would make the bike 4 years old? i also have other sources to her that i would rather not show, but she has not answered me back,i have found pics of her still cycling up until 2005/2006

i have had someone tell me the bikes were most likely "mates"(both 1985)and if u were a good and up and coming racer, which Laura must have been, you had your Roadbike and a matching Track bike(now owned by Wayne Bingham),more pics here of it http://www.vintage-trek.com/Trek_galleryWBTrack.htm it is most likely to late to realize the last name was spelled wrong and the paint was already dried, could this have really happen'd but he also said that TREK could have used the same stencling when personalizing race bikes? so is there a x-racer with the name of Laura Payke out there?..not sure,i know whose bike i have from the 80's,and she will be the one to know the complete story,

send the information to Skip Eckert at Vintage Trek. He always answers and either has the serial number
books or access to them.
