Rear rack mounting on an older touring bike
I just finished a build of an '82 Velo Sport Alpin:
The problem is I am just not pleased with the rack mounting. For some reason the frame did not include seatstay braze-ons and I had to use p-clips. Does anybody have any ideas for cleaner mounting? Maybe a different rack that mounts to the brake bridge, better p-clamps, or something else?

My Tubus Luna rear rack uses a monostay that attached to the brake bridge using the brake mounting bolt (I have caliper brakes, not cantilever). It's very stable and sturdy.

Nice looking bike. I think P clips are the standard way to attach a rack, and with cantilevers, a brake bridge mount may get in the way of the brake cable.
I think your P Clips would look better simply by flipping the bolts around, or otherwise minimizing the look of the bolts.

Blackburn, Vetta, and a few other rack makers produced ones that attached to the rear brake bolt or brake bridge in your case. I have one knocking around if you want to do a trade.

This is an old Jim Blackburn that I bought in the 70's. It's very sturdy. The arm that attaches to the brake centerbolt is stainless steel and it can be adjusted to level the rack. Nothing ruins the look of a bike like a rack that's not level. It works just as well with centerpulls and cantilevers. The arm goes through the bridge wire. I have one like it on my Gitane with Mafacs. These were made for a long time. They might even still make them. The last one I bought was $10 at a bike swap and I paid another $10 for the matching front rack.
