1981 Peugeot Super Competition

This is what I picked up today off craigslist today. This is the before pic.

The rims are Mavic. Hubs and skewers are Avocet. Has a Simplex SX410 derailer. The frame is a lugged Reynolds 531. Front fork is a Reynolds 531 chromed. Crank is Stronglight. Brakes are Spidel. Simplex shifters. Bars and stem are Atax. The headset says Lightrace on it. Hoods are Mafac. The pedals are pretty cheezy platforms that the previous owner put on the bike. It doesn't really need much work as far as I can tell.

Since it was in such good condition I paid the 300$ the seller asked.

Looks like a real nice bargain at $300. I would have paid it in an instant. All I'd have to do is replace the pedals and put on a nice B17.

The seat is original.
I would have thought that the cranks were french threaded but those look like regular threaded pedals?

Peugeot didnt use as many French threaded cranks as one would think. H.S. is French, BB's Swiss, pedals are British.

$300 is a good/fair price.

laman012 I will contact you first if I decide to sell it. First I wanna ride it a little.. I really wish it came with a Super LJ derailer insted of the SX410. I was a little worried at first spending 300$ on a craigslist find so thanks for the reassurance that it was a good deal everybody.

Very nice. You got a great deal. That Peugeot would have lasted about one nano second at $300 in my SoCal market. I bought mine in Feb. 2008 after coaxing the seller to remove it from Ebay. It still remains NOS and unridden. Here's a picture.

Yes, put the same horrible plastic saddle on it that it originally had.

Unless, of course, you plan to actually ride the bike

Nice bike. I know, I got mine several months ago and it is brilliant!

The price is good too. Consider yourself happy.

My 1980 PKN-10 Competition (same double-butted 531 main triangle -- "3 tubes renforces," but cheapo stays and forks) looked very similar, but with half-chrome forks (with a big ugly seam up the back of each blade). If that frame had not been too big for me, I would still be riding it. I can confirm ISO crank/pedal threading, Swiss BB threading, and a 22.0 stem diameter.
