Question about this Koga Miyata

I'm looking at a rather cheap KM racing bike as a temporary ride (my previous bike was stolen last night, an 80's Union Sapporo, Dutch, and I plan on getting one just like it, but I need a bike to keep me going while I look for a Sapporo - they tend to be hard to find) - but I realised that I know jack about bikes, so I was wondering, what do people know about this?

https://www.marktplaats.nl/index.php?...d%3D6%26fs%3D1

(sorry for the long link). It's only 50e and I don't need it to win a tour but I've never heard of Koga Miyata making bad bikes so I wonder. I have a thing for older bikes, so that's alright (I think it's a shame no-one uses the old toe-clip and -strap no more).

It is kinda hard to tell from the photo but yes, I would say that it is a good deal and the bike looks to be in good shape. I don't see any rust and the wheels are quick-release, which indicates a wheelset of some quality. I see fender mounts too which is something I personally like. Also, you probably should be about 6'4 or so to ride this bike though, it is huge.

Thanks - I'm only 1,80m so I'll see how that works out when I check it out tomorrow. If I get it I'll post more pics.

Cheers!

I remember the Koga Miyatas I saw racing in amature races in Milwaukee during my college days in the 80's looked real nice. Very cleanly detailed, well made bikes. You can't go wrong with a Miyata IMO.

I've converted about eight of my bikes to toe-clip/straps in the last couple of years. Eliminated all the various spd pedals and shoes. Only have clipless on the "fast" bike.

If you want to find out more on the Koga Miyata range of bikes, they have their catalogues from 1976 to 2009 available for download:

https://www.koga.com/uk/downloads.asp?main=5&sub=1

Helps if you can read Dutch!

At 5'9, I think you are going to be far too small for the bike.

I do not recognise it as a Koga.

Not really high end, but it is a great bike for IF your bike gets stolen regularly.
