Zefal HP help
Help,
I have two zefal HPs... they have dissimilar parts in the heads though appear outwardly the same... I would like to have one working presta configured pump. Does anyone have a diagram or could someone take a picture of the head in piece in the order and orientation they should be assembled... something it not right with mine! Arg...

There is the outer plastic nut, which you remove and replace by hand.
Immediately inside it goes the rubber cylinder. Orient this large-end-in (facing away from the nut) for Presta.
The innermost piece is a plastic disc. The prong faces inward for Presta.
To set up your Zefal for Presta service:
1) remove the three pieces listed;
2) reinsert the plastic disc, prong first;
3) reinsert the rubber cylinder, large opening first;
4) secure with the outer plastic nut.
I hope this helps.

Is yours the original HP model (silver body and needed a pump peg) or the HPx model (black body and frame fit)? There are also at least a couple different variants of the HPx with different little parts inside. I can try to take pictures - but would like to know which pump to take apart.

It's a classic silver HP needing a pump peg or umbrella clip.
John E, thanks, I have those parts, there is also a spring (there were two different size springs in one of them. One was missing the disc also but has a metal washer!? it seems if I do what John E has suggested the pump will not fit far enough onto the valve to actually pump it up.
I do have an HPx as well but the internals are different.. it works fine.
I can't figure it out, that is why I was hoping for pictures to see if something I have is incorrect, it seems to make sense it's just that it's way to short.

The metal washer is used to replace the black plastic piece with the nub that depresses the Schrader valve core. That washer goes in the pump first and sits on top of the large spring. It is followed by the rubber piece and for Presta this is oriented with the smaller opening facing the outside of the pump [later versions used the same rubber piece and just flipped it, but AIRC there was a different piece supplied with the old HP]. And I'm not sure, but the smaller spring may have gone inside the rubber piece so that it rested on the metal washer.
Sorry that I was unable to find the Presta parts so I could include a picture, but I've been using HPx pumps on my Presta-valved bikes for so long that I've misplaced those.

Unfortunately my old silver HP pump is set up for the Schrader valves on our tandem and I no longer remember where I put the alternate set of Presta parts.

I had the same problem, both with misplacing the parts, and what order to put them when I finally found them. I tried different combinations until I got one that works. I don't know if it is the correct way.

I am glad someone saves the instructions!
Yes, it looks as though the internals did get revised over the years, and my instructions applied to the HP-X, which is the only late model Zefal pump I have owned.

Awesome! Thanks OFG... it's as prathmann describes, the small spring does go in the rubber, now I must make sure it works...
