picchio special new purchase

with the help of mr. picchio special, i picked up a purple fifty two cm picchio special yesterday. the bike rides great and for a mid eighties bike, it is in almost new condition. it came built up with super record, except for aero brake levers. i was wondering if the company is still in business and if so, who runs it? the bike has great cut outs in the lugs but they are not colored or anything. i was wondering if its ok to paint these myself with a little yellow fill in paint, or just leave them alone. if anyone out there can help me again to get these pics from my photobucket to show here it would be greatly appreciated. cuddak told me how to do it but i still cant figure it out. sorry. the first five pics are the picchio, they are the newest ones so hopefully you can figure it out. thanks everyone. joe

that would look nice (even nicer, that is) with yellow in-fill...I suggest you buy some One-Shot signpainter's enamel, get some rags and thinner so you can wipe up your mistakes and go for it. Atsa really pretty bike, Joe!
Are the chainstays crimped on the *bottom*?

Could we trouble you for a full shot of it Joe? Those aero mounted shift levers are pretty interesting. The lugs are very very interesting.

I agree the yellow would look nice but I would be worried about painting it. I don't know if it really matters or not.

y'know...a GOLD fill (matching the decal metallic gold) would look even classier than yellow...

thanks very much mr chombe and of course keller as well. just took it out for a little 25 mile spin and it rides as nice as it looks although the 20X42 lowest gear is a little too high for me. like to get a 23 on the back. id like to fill in the lug ornaments but want it to look great. im a little sloppy with paint. should i take it to a painter to do this? thnks again. joe

Super bike, Joe - congrats. We have identical frames, but yours is in A1 shape, whereas mine is about A3 - still good, but yours looks new. The nicest Picchio Special I know of is owned by Classic Rendezvous website and list owner Dale Brown. His is silver and has yellow fills:

https://www.classicrendezvous.com/Ita...io/picchio.htm

Might give you some point of reference for how it would look on your purple frame. I think it would be cool if it's done right. His also had the cool Olympic rings on the top of the fork crown. My frame came to me with the same pantographed chainring Dale's has - you might want to keep your eye out for one on ebay, who knows.

thanks picchio special. of course couldnt have got that without your approval as i am ignorant on obscure italian bikes. thanks for the reference as well as to color the cutouts. the guy i bought it from was the original owner and bought it at stones cyclery in the bay area. the only thing he did was upgrade to the aero levers and -unfortunately-lost the original campy pedals. still, he kept it in fantastic condition and i shall try to do so as well-maybe better if i can, took me a two hour drive, but worth it. does picchio still make bikes????
