Miyata Univega Gran Premio
Just got a univega gran premio. Does anyone know of a place listing serial numbers for these bikes? Or, maybe even better, can anyone help me decipher it. L773390.
Thanks! Walter |
T-mar IS the list. Hopefully he will chime in soon and/or publish his database.

thanks for the hint. I had been googling around and that led me to this site. I searched the site itself and found a reference that would put this bike at 1983. Are Suntour Vx components right for this year? I'm still unsure what the numbers mean, or the stickers (I didn't mention them before as I didn't think they would be original, but seeing as other people had them, i guess they are.) Mine are, If I remember right, H on the left side, and D on the Right.
Thanks, Walter |
Yes, definitely a Miyata manufactured Univega. The serial number is from 1983, but it's high enough to be in the grey area and may actually be a 1984 model. I believe the 1983 model used standard, sided mounted, down tube shifters while the 1984 had areo style, top mounted, down tube shifters. I'm not sure what the two, single letters, stickers indicate. My guess is that are inpection indicators. Both the 1983 and 1984 Gran Premio used SunTour Cyclone MKII derailleurs.

Thanks t-mar, mine has the tube mounted shifters, so it seems it's a 1984. And i guess someone changed the derailers along the way. The bike does ride great though.
Thanks for the info. |
If you don't mind me hijacking your thread, looks like your question was answered...
My Miyata "Triton" 1987, one year I think, frame says ChroMo tubing, but not double butted. The catalog says the tubing is double butted. Is it double butted tubing and just didn't get the right decal? |
Gran Premios are pretty sweet:

T-Mar,
I am in the middle of resoting my Gran Premio (Serial #J942504). Mine also has two stickers, a "G" on the left and an "A" on the right. It has the Suntour auto-trimming shifters on top of the tube. I believe it had a regulaur Cyclone derailuer originally. What I want to confirm are the wheels. I have seen pictires of Miche hubs laced to Weinmann concave rims. Are these correct? Thanks. |

Letters are F & K no I'm not being a smartypants Really is an F & K Serial # is J809565:D It tells me that it was manufactured in late 1981 and is almost certainly a 1982 model. I have been unable to determine with absolute certainty the meaning of the two, lettered stickers, but I suspect they are inspection indicators for quality control purposes. |
